The Scene – An accumulation of nearly 40 years of costumes awaits party-goers at Champion's. Along with the requisite flappers and vampires, you'll find mermaids, Queen Elizabeths and the Pimp Daddy, complete with crushed red-velvet jacket, faux zebra collar and plumed hat. All of your party needs can be met here, from twinkling lights to plastic forks--and what soiree would be complete without special favors, such as stink bombs ("break one of the vials and a bad smell spreads out"), or fake kitty crap? – – The Goods – You can parade around in your costume for…

horrible customer service

i realize you can't expect much from a party supply store, but

they fail at meeting even the most reasonable of expectations.

I bought a costume there 1 hour ago.

I realized when I got home there was no helmet.

I called in, to be told there was no helmet that came with the costume.

I said there was, she said someone stole it.

"okay so can I come in and pick up a helmet"

"no, we have no more" me- "are you sure"

her- "i am pretty sure"

me- " so what can I do"

her- "your sol sir (s*** out of luck)"

then she hung up on me mid sentence. awesome. thanks.

If your wallet's full, and your creative brain is lacking

by wetkite

Make big money? Not creative? Go to Champions.

College girls from miles away will argue that Champions is the best.

Well, if you like to see twenty different versions of a skimpy nurse outfit ranging anywhere from $59.99 and up (not including syringe or stockings) then for you, it just might be.

This year I saw plenty of pirates, Marie Antoinettes, nurses, and gothic ladies, but not one unique costume in the place.

If you were thinking that you could purchase that adorable costume you saw online and avoid the shipping charges, you were kidding yourself! The same costume I found online for $52.99 that required $10.00 of shipping was $69.99 in the store- and finding it in the overstuffed aisles was much more difficult, and the staff offered absolutely no help.

If you can manage to snag one of the pierced, dreadlocked, dyed temp-staff on their way through the aisle, they'll respond in a huffy "No, we don't have that" and stare at you as if you're supposed to tip them for their rudeness and their company's unpreparedness. Granted, they're probably only working their for minimum wage so they can afford the costume they'd like to purchase from their EMPLOYER.

I did give Champion's at least ONE star, because though they have a limited selection, the wigs aren't all that bad if you're willing to pay upwards of 25 dollars a pop. Also, they have a wide variety of accessories for those of us who "make our own"- at no less than $2.99 a piece.

If you're looking for an accessory that you would expect to pay $0.99 for at WAL*MART - - GO TO WAL*MART.

Okay, okay- so most costume stores are the same. Their halloween profits fuel them through the rest of the costume-less year... but Champion's could learn a thing or two from costume stores that double as retail and second hand, like Red Light or Buffalo Exchange.

Bottom line: lackluster in originality, terrible service, lacking in organization and variance, and prices nearing criminal heights.

  • Pros: Wigs, variety of accessories if you're willing to pay
  • Cons: Customer service, outlandish prices, costumes poor quality and lacking in variety and originality

Awesome Emily gear, nice staff, great music while shopping

by sweetbtty

OKay, this store is expensive, but come on, it's not a huge chain like Wal-mart or anything. The selection of Hello Kitty, Emily, and gothy type clothes is awesome, as well as gear for Halloween. The staff is always friendly, although kinda hard to recognize who works there. The music always puts me in a good mood while I walk around, and the store just has a fun vibe to it.

  • Pros: Nice staff, lots of party gear, great displays
  • Cons: heavy door to open, no refunds, kinda expensive
