The Scene
From serious seamstresses to newbie needle pointers, this locally owned store stocks high-end fabrics, ribbons and everything you need to create clothes, wedding dresses and craft projects. Even the Pacific Northwest Ballet buys its fabrics here.
The Goods
For sewing addicts, this is as good as it gets. You'll find imported silk, brocade or tulle for your wedding dress, along with velvet and organza for evening wear. The store's selection of quality wools is one of the largest in town. Kids dream up their Halloween costumes here, and adults unhurriedly explore the vast sections of embroidery floss, trims, lace, beads and buttons. The Ribbon Room in the back of the store brims with hundreds of ribbons, from everyday cotton and satin to one-of-a-kind vintage ribbons kept under glass. Not sure how much to buy? Friendly, experienced staff will help decipher your pattern and measure exactly what you need.

Being a sewing newbie, I heard that Nancy's was the place to go for great "notions" and to get assistance picking fabrics, etc. Unfortunately, instead of help I received a harried salesperson waving her arm in a general direction telling me that the "knit fabrics are over there." She actually cut me off as I was trying to explain and show her the pattern I had brought with me. This was after I stood at the counter for a few minutes patiently waiting for help, to no avail (there was no one else waiting for help at the counter -- the workers managed to studiously ignore me until I vocalized my request for help). The woman who cut my fabric was unpleasant. I received nary a smile from anyone there. It could have been because it was a busy Saturday (still, not that many customers), but they managed to make me feel like a total annoyance. The fabrics were very pretty and they had a wonderful variety, but I'll never go to Nancy's again.
Pros: really pretty stuff
Cons: attitude of staff, traffic on queen anne ave

This store has some of the most beautiful fabrics I hever ever seen in my whole life. I was told it was just a little quilting shop, but how wrong! They have quite the selection of all kinds of fabrrics. If you're doing something for a special occasion, go here. They're run of the mill fabrics are a little more overpriced than the regular chain stores, but everything else is wy cool. Even if you're not buying that particular day, go look around and enjoy the eye candy.
Pros: wonderful selection, nice ambience, fun store
Cons: lack of parking
