Editorial Review for Coastal Kitchen – by Citysearch Editors
The Scene
Restaurateurs Peter Levy and Jeremy Hardy successfully pack 'em in at their neighborhood places; Coastal Kitchen is no exception. Dressed-up worker bees, funky artisans, cool young professionals--all of Capitol Hill's diverse population is well-represented here.
The Food
The regular fish-oriented menu is supplemented by a separate theme menu, which changes quarterly and draws inspiration from different coastal regions. Be it Brazil, Normandy, Indonesia or Greece, the idea is consistently well-executed. The regular "blunch" fare includes a wide assortment of omelettes and scrambles, including one made with smoked salmon and cream cheese; regular BLT and hamburger diner fare; and dinner entrees like pecan-encrusted catch of the day, herb-roasted chicken and grilled flatiron steak with a red wine demiglace.

Insider Tips
ParkingGet off 15th Avenue East and look for parking in the residential areas a block to the east or west.
What to DrinkBreakfast brings mimosas and bloody marys; dinner highlights wine according to that month's region.
When to GoWeekend brunch is extremely crowded and there is often a long wait. Your best bet for a table is to go early (before 10am) or late (after 1pm).
The ExtrasAt breakfast, it's worth the minimal extra charge to sub in a huge piece of the cinnamon-laced coffee cake for toast.

I should have walked away as soon as we noticed the mass of flies in the kitchen area. But no I still gave it a shot. After being served in food crusted dishes and having floaters in the ice water, we proceeded to have the worst meal. The pasta was over cooked and the salad was wilted. And on top of that the bill only added insult to injury.
Pros: Outside seating, great location
Cons: Dirty Service Wear, Over Priced, Poor Service, flavorless over cooked food

I live in the neighborhood, but I am usually hesitant to go to the Coastal Kitchen because I find the food so inconsistent. Sometimes they are on the mark and the entreé is well-prepared and full of interesting flavors. Other times the food is bland or overcooked. And the wait on weekends for breakfast is not worth it.
Pros: It's in the neighborhood.
Cons: It is inconsistent.
