The Washington Park Arboretum is co-maintained by the city of Seattle and the University of Washington. More than 4,000 labeled species of trees, flowers and other florae are planted in this 200-acre public park. Along with several jogging trails, the park features water access, a gift shop and a three-acre Japanese garden (planted in 1960 by famous Japanese landscaper, Juki Iida).

My husband recently went canoeing with his work, and he told me about this cool park around the 520 bridge, right where it goes into Seattle. So we packed up our kids one Saturday, and decided to take a trip to the Arboretum. Wow, this place was really cool! There are all sorts of trails to walk on (some in a wetlands area right on the lake), as well as lots of waterways filled with lilypads and ducks. People were swimming everywhere and paddling around in canoes that you can rent near the stadium. We had a blast, and were able to really tire out the kids. We brought a lunch to eat, but there were no picnic tables, so we had to sit on the ground. Fortunately, we brought a blanket. There is probably a restroom in the visitor's center, but we didn't get a chance to go there.

This place is great for a walk a bike or a paddle. Located in the U district it is freeway friendly and located on the shores of lake Washington. The nature and serenity of this place is wonderful. An oasis in the urban sprawl and the price is just right free Also worth a visit is the Japanese Garden.

On a warm summers eve with a loved one. This is one of Seattles best parks. Nature abound and lots of different flowers and fauna. A great place for a picnic or a nice boat ride. Located just outside the U district well worth the visit.
