Unpretentious and unchanged since the 50’s, the term greasy spoon doesn’t even come close to describing the deep fried goodness that practically drips off the walls. Though Spud at Greenlake has been
around since 1940, it moved to its current location in 1959, and is now a designated historical site. Three locations in all, many customers have such loyalty that they declare this the only authentic Spud.
While nostalgia plays a part in making this a Seattle institution, the fish and chips make it the popular attraction it is. A little higher on the price scale, with an extra charge for ketchup and tartar, it is well worth it to fulfill one’s fish cravings. Fresh, flaky, moist cod coated in a light, flavorful batter are served up with a side of well-balanced ratio of crunchy-to-limber french fries. Squeeze a bit of fresh lemon, douse it all with some of their handcrafted vinegar, then dip in tangy tartar sauce, and you’re ready to experience the explosion of flavors in your mouth. Other deep fried seafood is on the menu; prawns, halibut, clams, scallops, but for the traditionalist, only the cod will do.
There are a few window seats inside for cooler days, but when the Seattle sun comes out to play, take your steaming hot meal wrapped in it’s grease-soaked paper, head out to the adjacent patio, and grab a seat at one of the umbrella-topped, retro tables with bench seating. Fresh fish just tastes better eaten outdoors, and it’s the perfect spot for people watching. Location seems to be the key to long term success here. Directly across from the lake, you can reward yourself after your long run around the lake or take the kids for lunch after a morning at the park. Great. Lived in England for 15 years so I'm qualified to judge fish and chips. While no place I've seen in the US makes it quite like the English, this place is pretty close. Try it.

The best. Crispy on the outside,tender on the inside,and never soggy. Been there 3 times recently,excellent every time.
