Unpretentious and unchanged since the 50’s, the term greasy spoon doesn’t even come close to describing the deep fried goodness that practically drips off the walls. Though Spud at Greenlake has been around since 1940, it moved to its current location in 1959, and is now a designated historical site. Three locations in all, many customers have such loyalty that they declare this the only authentic Spud. While nostalgia plays a part in making this a Seattle institution, the fish and chips make it the popular attraction it is. A little higher on the price scale, with an extra charge for…
Editor's Tips
- The Extras:
- With the restaurant's proximity to the lake there's no need to worry about indulging a bit--you can always walk off that extra fish sandwich.

Lived in England for 15 years so I'm qualified to judge fish and chips. While no place I've seen in the US makes it quite like the English, this place is pretty close. Try it.
- Pros: great fish and chips, fast
- Cons: none

The Best SPUDS in Town
by ehj206 at Citysearch
Spuds has been on my list of favorites since I started going there as a child. Spuds is still serving up the best fish n' chips in town, delivering whole breasts of cod as compared to their competitors who only serve cod strips. If you visit, be sure to head to the Greenlake location as it is the only Spuds location that is independently owned -- you will taste a difference. Single with extra is all you will ever need!
Yummy and delicious!

I tired spud's for the first time a week ago. The place looks like a dive, but wow, do they know how to fry seafood. The fish was light and crispy; the oysters were perfect. I'd recommend ordering the food as take-out, because a bench in green lake park is likely to be more enjoyable, at least in the summer months. Great food!
- Pros: Inexpensive, great food, good parking
