What People Are Saying About Mona's

In Short – The art-filled, ruby-colored walls make this Latona hideaway a romantic mainstay, while floor-to-ceiling windows create an airy European feel. Most weeknights are ideal for quiet dinners or casual cocktails, while the festive crowd and live jazz combos on Thursdays and Saturdays can make things noisier. – The changing menu offers Mediterranean-flavored seasonal dishes, like Pork Loin Saltimbocca with apple and parsnip-stuffed gnocchi or duck confit with lentil, carrot and feta salad.
Editor's Tips
- What to Drink:
- Known for its seasonally changing, highly inventive cocktail list, there's also a very affordably priced by-the-glass wine list and a short but sweet list of beers on tap.
- Look Good:
- Have vegetarians in your party? Ask for the special menu just for them.
- When to Go:
- There's a live band on Thursdays and Saturdays from 9pm to 12am, or check out the downtempo DJ on Wednesday and Friday for a chill scene.
- The Extras:
- Most of the ingredients used are organic and sustainably produced.
- Happy Hour:
- Monday-Friday 5pm-7pm, offering bargain appetizers like lamb pitas and mini-empanadas, cheap margaritas and deals on wine, beer and wells.
- When To Go:
- Thursday through Saturday the kitchen is open till 11pm.
- What To Drink:
- Mona's Bistro and Lounge serves an extensive selection of wine and port as well as an extra sweet Spanish dessert wine.
Disappointing...and freezing!!
by mikeinseattle at Citysearch
We had a Living Social coupon and headed out with a party of three this evening. (2 adults, 1 child). The restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived and we had a wait quite a while to be greeted/seated. And it was freezing! They had heaters with the temp -- 53 degrees at the door, 61 where we sat.
We ordered risotto, shrimp tacos and a pizza. The pizza arrived COLD and had to be sent back for more cooking. By the same it came back, other diners were basically finished.
Beer was was too frothy from the tap; not a quality pull.
Music was too loud. Service was a bit absent.
Even at 50% off, this was not a good deal. Yikes.
Cry me a river for Mona's

Wow..... Things change. This was hands down my favorite place in Seattle for a lovely meal. Alas, it has gone so far downhill that the only thing recognizable is the decor. Everything else has changed. If I could give it ZERO stars, I would...but that option doesn't exist. We used to be on a first-name basis with the waitstaff. Now, there is no one reliable there to wait on you. They even took the duck confit (the best I ever had in the US) off the menu, which used to be the entire reason we would go there.... We would get 2 salads (used to have the best Caesar in town, but now it's horrid) then move onto two plates of the duck and two desserts. With a $30 bottle of wine, we could get out of there for under $100. Now, you couldn't pay me to eat there...and we feel like we lost a good friend. We were there 2 weeks ago and NO DUCK, so to compensate for that, I wanted whine...I mean wine, and both bottles that we ordered were out of stock. It took the waiter FOREVER to get back to us and to be told twice that they didn't have our wine was just the beginning of our woes. We ended up just buying by the glass, which was quite terrible. My wine had gone sour, but by this point we are already there for a half an hour, so we just went with it. Then, out comes the field greens salad that had rotten bits of lettuce in it. It wasn't even on the verge of being fresh, it was just awful. We picked at it for a little while and the pile of rotten leaves kept growing. We complained and they took it off the bill. I don't even remember what we had for a main course, but the first thing I ordered...guess what? They were out of that too! By the time our main plates came we had lost all interest in eating and just wanted to get the heck outta there. So, get this: We asked for our food to be boxed up and the waiter had to go to the restaurant around the corner to get to-go boxes, because, um, they were out! So... that's it. We are never going back and it's really sad, because we used to do all kinds of celebrations there and take out of town guests and everything. Mona's, what happened to you? My advice to anyone thinking about going there (and I don't care if you have a 50% off coupon...DO NOT GO. Whoever said that Mc Donald's would be a step up is not joking. I just wish we would have looked at City Search before going. What a bummer and we were celebrating our anniversary that evening...so thanks again for making it memorable in the worst possible way.
MoNA's or MoAN

My friend and I had occasion to eat here prior to going to a dance performance at the UW so we were on a time schedule but did allow almost 2 hours. We started off with a warm spinach salad to share. Salad was brought on one large plate and no plates to split. There was supposed to be melted cheese on top--not the case. Spinach had no taste and did not seem fresh. We complained to wait person and she did not charge us. I ordered lamb shank with polenta and broccoli. Lamb shank was adequate but polenta was unrecognizable & broccoli was flat. My friend ordered Mac n' cheese. First time around bottom was burnt. So my friend had to send it back. Glass of Merlot was unremarkable, Malbec was slightly better. Wait person was friendly but her service left a lot to be desired. She never really checked to see if everything was OK. Someone brought a small bottle of pepper to our table but no salt. The decor is pleasant but it is much too dark. After this VERY disappointing & insulting meal the wait person brought us the wrong check. We had to hunt her down and were almost late for our performance. We would never eat here again & would advise others not to as well.
Save your time and money and go elsewhere

Save your money and spend it elsewhere. McDonald's would be a step up.
The food was so so and should be better for the prices you pay and the inattention from the wait staff.
We were never offered bread, to begin the dining experience. Drinks were late or didn't arrive at all, dessert menu was never offered or a request for after dinner drinks.
The service is terrible, the worst in the city! The only time the wait staff moved fast was when they were delivering bills to tables.
Save yourself some time and money and spend it elsewhere for a better dining experience.
- Pros: Nice color on the wall
- Cons: Terrible service, food
It's changed
by rothermelgirl at Citysearch
I live in the neighborhood and have been going to Mona's for years, and unfortunately it's changed recently. The food is just as good, or better, than it ever was, and the place generally looks and feels the same, but something has changed. It's probably the non-stop DJ music that makes it most unpleasant these days, as a spot to meet with friends and talk (note the "quiet" on the list of amenities; not the case anymore unless you happen to catch the place while it's dead). Also, strangely, while the food has remained on par, the food service has gone a bit lax, which takes away from the whole experience. We used to go there twice a week; not so much anymore.
