Overview
The center, which moved here in 1993 from the Phinney Ridge Neighborhood Center, is one of just a handful of full-time professional puppet centers in the United States. Chris and Stephen Carter founded it in 1986 as a home for their company of puppets, the Carter Family Marionettes. The center features new and favorite works by the Carters, productions from guest artists, workshops and touring shows.
The Experience
Downstairs in the lobby you'll find restrooms, a concession stand (cookies, coffee and juice), the box office and a closet-size gift shop selling books and puppets. Upstairs, the theater is decorated with a vaguely Alpine theme, and the large, durable-carpeted room is decidedly kid-friendly. There are rows of chairs for those so inclined, but most children sit on the floor near the low stage. Show themes typically focus on animals, folk tales or traditional holiday stories and run under an hour.

I was skeptical on my first trip to this little puppet theater in North Seattle. Tucked into a populated neighborhood, the house/theater looks magical to kids. Small play structure in the yard for those who arrive early or care to linger after the show. Festival type seating inside. Annual line-up of shows will include a variety of puppet genres and stories. Suitable for all ages. Extremely family friendly and affordable. Put it on your calendar!

Parking:
Go early: Parking on these slender residential streets is a challenge (additional parking is available across the street at the Lakeview Free Methodist Church, except for shows at 1pm on Sundays).
