Editorial Review for Metropolitan Market - Admiral – by Citysearch Editors

In Short
Top-quality food is displayed like fine art: Meats are arranged like sculptures, pastries like jewels, vegetables like a Dutch still-life. Vibrant chalkboards mark the aisles and clever ceramics denote individual kiosks. It's not all show, however. Knowledgeable and cheerful staff--some trained in France--explain cheese rinds, aged beef, food and wine pairings and the best chocolate cookbook, and the store is one of the best places in town to discover those hard-to-find gourmet items.

The Extras

The central kiosk offers live demonstrations by local chefs, food samples and a fabulous selection of seasonal recipes. Try the cafe's grilled panini or pork loin.

Know Before You Go

Grab some meat, cheese and wine, and head to West Seattle's nearby Alki Beach.

Great Employees there but boy are they mistreated. People get fired for smoking on their ten minute breaks. Their hours get arbitrarily cut. They work kids in the back like animals for 8 bucks an hour. They're so busy catering to their yuppy clientèle that they can't tell their employees feel like they're in a prison. Man, these small grocery chains are supposed to be different than the big ones but there isn't much of a difference. I'll be shopping at safeway and hoping for a trader joe's to open in the neighborhood some time soon.

Pros: Nice employees

Cons: they are badly treated

Stop on in and hand us your wallet. The smoke and mirrors will almost make you believe this fresh food is worth your hard earned money and they are more than willing to take it.
