Surprisingly Good Chicken Strips!. Good, standard fish and chips. They are served nice and hot with plenty of natural cut fries. I was surprised how moist the chicken strips were. Not bad if you have a craving for deep fried food but I probably couldn't eat here more than a couple times a year.....

Plus - parking lot for busy days

Negative - a bit expensive for fast food

Not as good as I was led to believe. I've had a few people sing praises of Spud's when I first moved here to Seattle, and, living by Alki, I decided to give them a try. And...what's the big deal? The seafood itself is fine, if not mind-blowing, but the fries are awful, soggy and barely edible. There's also a strong and distinct odor of what I can best describe as toilet water at the front entrance (believe me, I stopped here twice, trying another item the second time around to see if it would be much better, which it wasn't, and that plumbing leak smell remained there from the last time around). According to the reviews here, they USED to be a great place but have apparently went downhill in recent years, which is a shame, really, if true.

If you want a good quality fried seafood place on Alki where the french fries are actually edible, check out Sunfish instead, which is less hyped but far superior all-around.

What are you kidding me?. Let me tell you, I may have never eaten here before, but I'm pretty sure General Gridlock and Army Armstrong BOTH give it a biggie size thumbs down. If only you knew what I knew, you'd understand why the Spudders need to be curb stomped. LOSE.

trans fat free. I keep reading the reviews of spuds and people saying that it used to be better years ago. Well everybody can thank the liberals and the vegheads for the recent lack of flavor, because years ago we used saturated fats and trans fats to do all of our deep frying and that was the only way to make deep fried food of that kind taste good. Now I might be making a lot of people mad but you can thank yourselves in king county. Instead of forcing people to practice self control with what they eat we punish our favorite places to eat. Trans fat or saturated fat is a necessary ingredient when frying food bring it back and spuds will taste good again. I will say I have a fish and chips restaurant but I will not say where, I will also say that I have 15 years of deep frying knowledge in my head. So basically you can believe me or not and I don't care either way.

Retro-cool take-out spot does fried fish just right.. In Short
A short walk from the beach, this is the perfect warm picnic for cooler sunny days. These family-owned fish-and-chip joints specialize in ling cod, although halibut, salmon, oysters, scallops, clams, prawns, popcorn shrimp, and even chicken are on the menu. There are some nice touches, such as garlic vinegar and Tabasco for the asking, but when it comes to tartar sauce, you'll have to cough up another 17 cents.

Great Food. I tried every fish and chipper in West Seattle and thought all of them sucked. Spud's was the last one. I had no hope whatsoever that his one would be any different from the rest, but I walked in anyway. I asked "Is you fish breaded or battered"? (I dispise breaded fish and can get nothing but that in Seattle) A very kind woman states "You can get them both here" My heart started to soar. Then when I got my dinner home, I realized that I had found the only fish and chips in the whole state that I loved! And the battered prawns! delicious. I was very disappointed with the cole slaw but on the whole I will keep coming here for a long time.

Less than spuderiffic. If you are going to visit Spuds, you need to drive out to the Juanita location. The location on Alki was bought and/or sold-out ... they are nothing more original than the fish-y chain Ivars.

The Juanita location is the original recipe ... this is easily the best.

What Used to Be. I grew up eating Spud's at Alki. It was absolutely the best. When I moved away, I would bring my husband and son back to Spud's when we visited--we just had to come. But the last couple of years, the quality just hasn't been there and I much prefer the fish and chips down the road at the marina. Sorry.

Quality heads for the ocean bottom. I've been a Spud fan all my life but I have to tell you that quality has been heading downhill for the last couple of years. Instead of crunchy batter with moise fish I've had soggy outsides, dry insides and less than appealing fries. Even my beloved garlic vinegar can't fix it. Come on Spud, clean up the restaurants and get the quality back up!

Spuds in the house :). Spuds is still the best, great fish, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Fries are ok but not up to far with the fish, but its all good.
