Nice Try.
I've lived down the street from Spud all my life. In the last about 4 years it has gone steadily downhill. Every now and then I stop in to see if it is as bad as it was the last time, and it's been worse and worse. About a week ago, which really will be the last time for me, the fish was raw inside, cold, and the batter was soaked up with grease like an old leftover that had been re-heated up in the oil. Also all three pieces of "cod" were that icky brown color that should be what you trim off to get a good filet. The whole restaurant smelled like stale fish which has never been that bad before. They're getting fewer and fewer customers and that is why.
Save your money and go to the Sunfish
Just the Best. Spuds has been around forever....you dont hang around this long by being bad. When I want some of the best fish n chips around...I head to Spuds. Growing up in Alaska...I love good fish..and Spud's fish has always been top notch. I always send people their way. Chinooks has good fish also, but I like supporting the little guy. Just go there and try it if you havent already!
A Bit Of Seattle History. Given, the recipe and the quality has changed somewhat over the years, but nothing hits the spot better than the Spud variety. My mom tells me stories about Spuds from 1945, when she and her sister gathered bottle deposits at Alki Beach, and turned right around and bought an order of fish and chips to share. She claims they taste just the same as they did back then.. That's special!
