Editorial Review for Sunfish Seafood – by Citysearch Editors

In Short
Located on the farthest reaches of busy Alki Avenue, where the traffic starts to wane and the crowds start to thin, the restaurant is often overlooked. Try the fish kebabs, speared chunks of grilled halibut and veggies. The fried fish is offered as single pieces or as combos, and has a crumbly batter. Picnic tables outdoors are a rare commodity in the summer months.

I've always been a Spud's fan, love the chowder and french fries. Then I read some good reviews on Sunfish, so I had to run down and try it today. Spud's vs Sunfish. The chowder was exceptional! It had so many full clams in there, I was in clam heaven and didn't want my large bowl to end. The fish wasn't greasy, it was lightly battered and delicious. Unfortunately the french fries were undercooked and slightly cold, but everything else was so good that it made up for it. Regarding the grumpy service I also read about, I found it more amusing than upsetting. Just giving him a smile and a comment about his picture on the wall and I got a warm smile and fish delivered directly to my table. He seemed like a softy underneath that furrow.

I first went here on the recommendation of my boss (a foodie) who raved about their calamari. Their calamari is still my favorite on the menu, although I like the fried oysters, too. I went to Spuds up the street once and it absolutely doesn't compare. The only people who go to Spuds are the ones who haven't discovered Sun Fish yet!

Pros: Delicious seafood.

Cons: Greek brothers who own the place can be grumpy sometimes...but you get used to it.
