Editorial Review for West Seattle Bowl – by Citysearch Editors

In Short
Built in 1948, West Seattle Bowl has kept much of its retro charm. It wasn't until 1996 that the alley installed overhead automated scoring. So, it's no suprise that old-schoolers (middle-aged locals who can remember how to keep accurate score without computer assistance) predominate. Younger crowds flock to Extreme Cosmic Night on Saturdays--complete with black lights, strobes and music.

West Seattle Bowl recently underwent a major modernization and has added new high-tech Brunswick scoring along with motorized bumpers, making it easy for families to share a lane and hiding the bumpers for older children and adults. West Seattle Bowl also has become the first center in Seattle to feature a permanent smoke-free atmosphere. This allows for a more enjoyable time at the center and provides a healthful environment for the smoke concious. There is a smoking zone in the lounge for convienance.

Pros: No smoking, 32 lanes, good parking

Cons: limited smoking

i went with a group of 30-somethings for saturday night "glow" bowling, and they played the best music, had the kitchiest lighting and disco fog, and even gave us free bowling games for hitting down at least 8 pins when the "glow" pin was up front. It was the best time all of us have had in awhile, and the friendly, cheap, no-waiting service was a joy as well. When it comes to bowling, this place rocks!

Pros: no lines, cheap, kitchy glow bowling
