In Short
Combining a used-book bookstore, antique shop, espresso stop and fireplace-warmed cafe, just about everything visible is for sale: the tables, chandeliers, books--and, of course, the pastries in a front-counter case. Nearly everything on the menu is made in-house, including sandwich and burger buns, pastries and waffle-cut potato chips. Breakfast fare includes egg dishes. Sunday brunch expands to include Belgian waffles, eggs Benedict, French toast, quiche and corned-beef hash.

Excellent breakfast and lunch spot. Soon to be open for dinner too. Friendly, warm ambiance in this local restaurant. I strongly recommend it.

Ok, so I made this post a few weeks ago and I was more than a lil harsh to the old owners. I wont give an excuse, it just wasn't right. So I'll amend the previous post I made. For a restaurant that had absentee owners, and from owners who didn't really know the restaurant business very well, they had a great idea. I think they had a good start on what coulda been a great idea. Though I do have to admit to absolutely adoring what the new owners have done. Its less cluttered, things are moved around a bit, and otherwise all they did was expand on what was already there. They've done some simple things like bringing in a certified chef from out of state and the food went from done as quickly as possible to having just a bit more care put into each plate. The service has been worked on too, even with the old staff, they're attentive, they actually Smile, and they are always right there when you need them. To make it even better I went to their opening for dinners last night? They have a new server running the night time shift for the time being and she's all smiles and giggles, a pleasant breath of air after a long day. The dim lighting is perfect for a quiet night of knowing you're going to be served. I'd Highly suggest it!

I visited the Library Cafe recently for lunch with family from out of town. I ordered the tuna melt with clam chowder. The best tuna melt I've had in years, not the overly-mayonaissed runny stuff you get at most places. Chunky and delicious on fantasticly tangy sourdough. The chowder was chunky as well, with lots of juicy clams! My companions enjoyed their sandwiches as well. The atmosphere is cute, the fireplaces are just the right touch for a damp Seattle afternoon. And let's not forget the waitstaff, our server was busy decorating for Valentine's day but dropped what she was doing and was at tableside before we had a chance to summon her. Way to keep an eye out!
