The Scene – This basement Belltown dance club holds no surprises. Upon first entering, the club seems to be going for a loose tropical theme: a faux leopard-skin rug covers the entryway stairs and a replica of an Easter Island statue head screams tropical. But the theme ends there and the real focuses are soon realized: the bar, the dancing, and the loud, mainstream techno, hip-hop and R&B. – – The Draw – There is little pretense in the air--everyone is invited to the party, although ladies seem to be more strongly encouraged to attend. Wall mirrors lining the dance…
Most terrible customer service I've ever dealt with in my life!
by ginalb3
Went for my birthday the other night and I, a person who has rarely had ill words with another, almost slapped the girl working at the front door. I have never in my life met someone who was so incredibly nasty that all you could assume was that her life was utterly miserable. She wasnt the girl taking the money, apparently, and this is the best part, she didnt even really work there...she was the promoters girlfriend. I could understand someone getting a bit mouthy if we were rude but this girl was just incredibly nasty outright. Funny thing, lots of people in the club, including people who work there were talking about how awful of a person she was. I also spoke with many people who said they would not be coming back due to her extreme rudeness. Now, why would they have someone like this at their front door? They are very much risking losing a lot of business. I own a business myself and know that this is a very poor business move and I will make sure to let everyone know how I feel about Downunder including everywhere I can get online.
- Pros: none
- Cons: the worst run business I've ever encountered
Recent remodeling gives one fresh breath of air.
by spankmehard
D.U. seems to be coming back from a few dry seasons (more like years), with a slight remodeling upgrade that has been drawing in the crowd (as of spring 2005). The decor is now a little prettier, and the seating is laid out a little cleaner, but unfortunetly the same cramped feeling is there. When ladies have to pay $10 entry (friday), we would expect something about this club to stand out or have class, but the bartending is still hit or miss, the hip hop rooms can get too hot, and the second dance room lacks activity. They should have dedicated one room to bars and lounging, and the other room for hip hop dancing. On the bright side, the closing time isn't 2A.M. and the hip hop/rap DJ was decent.
- Pros: Late Hours, $10 entry
- Cons: Street Parking, Cramped
I got burned!
by zabian227
Just went to the Mardi Gras foam party, and they used too much industrial strength soap, so now my skin burns. There weren't many women in the foam and it seemed to be about a 2.5 to 1 guy-girl ratio there. Music was pretty lame, it was only fun because I went with a group and I was pretty lit.

Know Before You Go:
The club gets hot and very crowded by midnight on the weekends, so if you can't stand drunken hordes of people, be sure to show up early.
