Editorial Review for The Ace Hotel – by Gayot.com
The Scene
Located in the city's neighborhood du jour, this converted mission has the feel of a loft that's been divided to create guest rooms. White dominates the long hallways, polished walls and exposed brick in the rooms. The austere setting appeals to budget-conscious Europeans and Japanese visitors, as well as younger, more adventurous travelers; it's definitely not your parents' Sheraton.
The Details
The hipper-than-thou theme is continued in each of the 28 rooms, where the Gideon Bible has been replaced by condoms and the Kama Sutra. Furnishings in the high-ceilinged rooms are minimal. Bed. Sink. Vanity. Telephone. TV. Guests in singles and doubles share a bathroom down the hall. Travelers who have outgrown the dorm experience, but who find the big chains too stuffy, may want to opt for one of 14 deluxe rooms. In fact, the hotel's best feature could well be the private bathrooms that are hidden behind rotating walls.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoWhile none of the rooms will be impervious to noise, try Room 121 (in the back) for a more tranquil experience--and a view of Puget Sound.
Look GoodIf you visit during late summer, book a deluxe room with air-conditioning.
The ExtrasThe Cyclops Cafe is conveniently located below the hotel; grab a cocktail or stop by in the morning for an excellent breakfast.

And really. I think that's a good thing. This is not a generic chain. It's a unique, budget hotel. The decor is interesting, but might seem a bit flimsy. I loved this place, it was centrally located (if you have issues with homeless people, you may want to avoid Belltown, where the hotel is located), reasonably priced and they serve continental breakfast until noon! Honestly, we didn't spend that much time hanging out in our hotel room, and it wouldn't have been all that comfortable if we had due to it's small size. It was a very comfortable place to sleep and regroup. We had a deluxe room with our own bathroom, it was austere, but wholly accomadating. I did notice that the shared bathrooms looked perfectly acceptable, and we could have saved even more money if we had stayed in one of those rooms. Parking was something of a pain, there is a pay lot two blocks down the street, you can purchase 24 hour passes for $17. It is a bit inconvenient to have to drag your luggage up First Avenue at 9:00 on a Friday night... The wifi in the rooms was really convenient though... The staff is somewhat hipsterish, but they were very sweet and accomadating to us. The Ace is a great deal, but if you're expecting the Embassy Suites, you might want to stay somewhere else.
Pros: Continental Breakfast til noon, cool decor, low price
Cons: Parking, The Vague Sketchiness of Belltown

My boyfriend and I went to Seattle in Early August for a two and and a half week trip to the Pacific Northwest and we started at the Ace Hotel. I had researched the hotels in Seattle pretty well and thought this one sounded like the best deal for the money. We were greeted with immense hospitality upon arrival, which included complimentary breakfast in the morning, and tea and coffee all day long (the coffee was great, definately met Seattle's standards). We got the deluxe room, because I wasn't to keen on sharing a shower, but after being there I don't think I would have minded, because you receive complimentary bathrobes and the decor is pristine and modern. All of the staff were so accomodating, they even put some beers in our room as a nice gesture. They made reservations for us for dinner at night, and had quite good recommendations. The neighborhood, in Beltown, was a perfect location for seeing Seattle by foot. We walked to Pike Place, through Beltown, and to where the Space needle and museums were. We felt so relaxed at the Ace that we didn't want to leave so we returned there at the end of our trip to reccoperate and get one more last bit of luxury at the Ace Hotel. Oh one more cool thing is the great art that is different in every room.
