An arts lounge theater in historic Pioneer Square, the Velvet Elvis is run by a non-profit organization that presents entertainment as varied and strange as its name might suggest. Whether it's Annie Sprinkle's porno therapy shtick, Art Alexakis' solo acoustic strumming, or the experimental jazz of local composer Eyvind Kang, this spacious, brick-walled theater is a great place to catch unusual performances. On many weekends, all-ages shows featuring local and touring indie rock bands are also hosted. Further highlighting the non-commercial, DIY ethos of the dedicated cadre of volunteers who run the place, most shows are around $5. Local fringe theater groups have also been known to commandeer the stage from time to time.--Christopher Kerl
