Don't recommend

by brians911 at Citysearch

I have been taking my new puppy here for several months. I would not recommend this vet. Each visit I leave feeling as if I have been ripped off and talked down too.

  • Pros: Location

Never had a negative experience here

by JJFS1980 at Citysearch

I used to own two kittens, Odin and Loki (they were brothers), and when we took them both in to Broadway Vet, they were treated with great respect. The male assistant guy was kind of rude (didn't strike me as much of a people person, or very experienced with freaked out cats), but the woman doctor was exceptional. The price was a tad high, but that's to be expected with most veterinary care. I don't know about their overnight care, though, as my kittens were only going in for routine shots and check-up.

I've also twice taken in cats that I've found abandoned. The first was 3 newborn kittens I found alone and crying out at Volunteer Park and the second was a large old cat that I found meowing and trembling down by I-5. Both times they immediately assessed the cats' health situation and jumped right on providing them care. With the kittens, they cleaned them and bottle fed them right off the bat, and with the old cat, they called the number on the cat's tag (some animal tracking company) and quickly got information to them to notify the owner. Of course I wasn't charged for any of this as they weren't my cats to begin with.

The cat I have now (lost the other two in the divorce) is healthy and fortunately her previous owner is a vet tech at another vet office, so she provides free service for my kitty whenever it's needed. But if that changes, I'd take my kitty to this clinic, even if it put me into debt for awhile. She's so worth it.

Amazing vet care, knowledge, staff and technology

by Svadharma at Citysearch

I worked at and took my pets to Broadway Veterinary Hospital for almost four years. I now live in Albuquerque and I am starting to realize how lucky I was to have worked with such an amazing veterinary clinic. I went to the vet near my dad’s house in Las Cruces and had lab work and a basic urinalysis done. We were given absolutely no feedback on the results. Nothing. The results were not terrible and only showed mild dehydration, but we weren’t called and told this. Nor were we given suggestions on how to prevent dehydration. After the amount of information I saw given to owners at Broadway Vet, I was very disappointed. Another woman’s dog was defecating in the house. Her vet gave dewormer, but did nothing else. I was able to use BVH’s web site to search for information about housetraining that she used to fix the situation.

While looking for veterinary care for my own cats, I have asked about the amount of Continuing Education received by the staff, about the kind of equipment available to diagnose and treat my cats, and about their philosophies when it comes to preventative care, and no one has even come close to the standards I saw at Broadway. All I can do is choose the clinic that comes closest, the one that makes me cringe the least when I think of the care I am used to receiving.

Broadway Veterinary Hospital is constantly keeping up with the kinds of technology that really help pets. They want to train and empower their staff. They really care about the pets and the clients. I cannot tell you how many times I saw members of the staff cry over a pet that just didn’t make it.

I like the longer days here in the Southwest, but I will never stop missing Broadway Vet.

  • Pros: compassionate care, help owners make informed decisions
  • Cons: not close enough to me

my cat love Broadway Vet Hospital!

by jt5472 at Citysearch

I've been coming here for years and have always been treated fairly and have received professional care for our tabby (who is a finicky guy sometimes!). My girlfriend also brings her two pit bulls here and has had nothing but great treatment from the vets here. Kudos

  • Pros: Professional and helpful doctors
  • Cons: Staff is a little gruff, but the doctors make up for it

Complete nightmare

by mariechen at Citysearch

I have never had a more negative, frustrating, and disheartening experience with a veterinarian than with Dr. Gertinger and Dr. Cornman. My boyfriend and I had to take our very ill kitten to their clinic three times in one week, and they made it clear they that didn?t have the best interest of the animal or its owner in mind. They suggested even more excessive diagnostic tests after we had already done several different unsuccessful tests and it was clear that our kitty's chances at recovery were very slim (and only possible if the cat were hospitalized with them for at least a month with a feeding tube placed). On two occasions did they not return my phone calls for a whole day when my cat's condition was clearly critical and we needed to make decisions urgently. Lastly, only after first suggesting that we do more invasive and expenisve tests, did she admit that it might be best to have him euthanized. I later fount out that she suggested to my boyfriend that we keep our sick kitty quarantined from our other cat, for reasons I don?t understand. By this time, I had done a great amount of my own research on our kitten?s condition, and of the two possible diseases he had, neither were contagious! Did she really want him to spend his last days sick and lonely without his friend?

Our cat had a seizure on the next day, and it was clear to us that we had to put him out of his misery as soon as possible. When we called to let our vet know we were going to come in for the procedure, we were told that there were NO AVAILABLE APPOINTMENTS! In the end, we had to drive him all the way across town to an Emergency Clinic. It pains me to think about how this all would have ended if we had listened to the Doctor?s suggestion and gone through with more tests. Our little kitten would then have spent his last day at a doctor?s office undergoing all kinds of invasive procedures. Or he would have been in a room, by himself, without the comfort of his friend.

  • Pros: None!
  • Cons: Don't care about their patients, impossible to contact when you need to speak to them urgently, expensive,
