Editorial Review for Linda's Tavern – by Steve Wiecking
The Scene
This tavern offers the ultimate cross section of its hip, happy neighborhood--from the jukebox that finds Tammy Wynette commingling with the Smiths, to the buffalo head that hangs over the bar watching tattooed punks eat grilled cheese sandwiches. Linda's also features occasional appearances by a diverse selection of local DJs spinning everything from classic country to '60s surf rock. Snag one of the tall wooden booths and hang out all evening.
The Draw
Though hard alcohol is served, a pitcher of beer is pretty much the standard and makes for a perfectly laid-back afternoon on the patio (which is packed during summer screenings of cheesy cult flicks). Solid, unashamed comfort food--burgers, mashed potatoes and a fat meat loaf sandwich that would make Mom proud--keep drinkers happy.

Insider Tips
ParkingPark for a scant $3 at the parking garage on Pine and Harvard.
Where to SitGet there in the late afternoon, and grab a table outside before crowds gather on the small back patio.
When to GoDon't miss the weekend brunch--a cheap, greasy-spoon affair (including bloody marys) that is the Hill's best-kept secret.
