The Scene
Pillowed booths, ornate lanterns and candlelight set a swanky Moroccan mood that romance-seeking couples find irresistible. A DJ pipes in groovy background music that's as non-intrusive as waitstaff who keep the meal moving along smoothly. On a warm night, the balcony off the second-floor lounge is the perfect setting for a signature cocktail.
The Food
Middle Eastern touches highlight this menu, with delicacies such as sweet Medjool dates with Brie, and sweet, fat scallops boldly combined with pomegranate vinaigrette and parsnip. The kitchen also draws on Spain, Italy and France for culinary inspiration. The grilled veal (a choice free-range organic chop) deserves special mention for its incredible tenderness and accompanying roasted grape sauce and celery root gratin. For herbivores, there's a filling risotto and substantial salads. Strong flavors dominate the bar food as well, such as a small pizza topped with fennel salami and olive tapanade.

I've been to this bar several times last year, and I kind of liked the atmosphere, food, drinks and the music. This time, I went to celebrate my friend's b-day, and we had really bad experience (It was actually surprising, it seems something (owner?) changed?). First of all, the bartender guy was terribly unfriendly, and since the music was so loud, he didn't hear the right drink orders and made wrong drinks. When we corrected him (after he made), he got upset and yelled at us (couldn't believe it!). After all he made the right ones but charged us so much more. We thought food quality got worse, too. The music was ok still, but there were too many homosexuals dancing... and kept bumping against us. I don't think we'll ever go this place again.

After searching for a place to host my saturday nite birthday party we settled on the Capitol Club because of a delicious sounding menu, nice looking location and very reasonable event prices. We had one whole room of their dinning room for a very modest food & drink minimum and no room rental fee! Our server was very friendly and handled our large party with grace. The food was delicious though the portions are small because it's tapas. The music was great and, though we could hear the bar noise upstairs, it was not at all bothersome to our event. I had a great party here and highly recommend the Capitol Club!

Went to Capitol Club the last time my buddy from San Diego was in town. I was extremely apprehensive, as I had heard some not-so-stellar things about it third-hand from someone else (obviously from my rating, a stale review), but thought what the hell since I had passed by it the week before and it appeared to be full of some damn happy looking folks. For good reason, it seems. We only went for happy (2) hours, but the food was really fantastic (and very reasonably--happy hour at least--priced). Specifically, if you like calimari, they serve the fattest, lightly breaded (i hate when it's overwhelmed by breading and grease) fried calimari that really let the natural taste come out. The other food that I nibbled on tasted great even though it was a bit unfamiliar (which was actually fun to try new stuff) and the beers / booze pretty damn cheap, especially considering the fact that the service was probably some of the best I've had. The guy waiting on us was really friendly from the outset, but somehow we discovered he was co-owner, and he told us all about their various specials. Apparently there are live music and performances too. The only negative thing I would have to report is that this joint is that I suspect it is about to get very popular in a hurry, since people tend to find out about such a great score pretty fast. This is probably one of those types of joints that's too good to last, but hopefully they'll be rewarded for doing it right.
