Great food in an interesting community environment. The menu items for breakfast and lunch are well prepared and interesting. The bakery items are excellent. We enjoy bringing friends and out of town guests here for the food and the cool location with the lbookstore and large communal seating area. Always a good experience. I recommend it to anyone.
great brunch .... i came to honey bear bakery with a friend for weekend brunch. she loved her omelette and my pumpkin waffle was killer. i came back with my mom and grandmother, but we were too late for weekend brunch. having interacted with a total of three cashiers, i can say that two were really great and one was ridiculously snobby. two out of three isn't bad, but there's room for improvement.
Ran out of chances. I will never patronize this establishment again. I ordered an egg dish and my friend ordered oatmeal. I watched my dish sit on the shelf for almost 5 minutes. My pager went off as I was approaching to see what the problem was, and when I went to the counter, the staff person told me they were out of oatmeal. When I asked them for my $ back, they "credited" the gift card I used. I checked the balance at another establishment and the $ wasn't returned. They argued, but finally gave me cash. Next visit, I got the wrong omelette and my friend's dressing ordered on the side didn't come that way...it was mixed in and drenched the greens. This happened to her one more time before she decided to not go there again. On my last (and final) visit, I nervously watched the long-haired cook prepare my meal and lost my appetite while checking my food for hair. I also agree with another review, that staff people are aloof and seem bothered to have to wait on people.
MAGNIFICENT Mochas make up for lack of customer service. I will travel from Everett for a mocha from Honey Bear (oh, and a piece of cake or a cupcake)! We can't find a slice of chocolate cake anywhere that's better and the mochas are divine! All the best ingredients. The reason I'm giving 3 stars instead of 5 is that I always feel "guilty" when ordering my mocha; like for some reason I really am wasting their time with my order! The food seems to come most often with an attitude rather than a smile and "thank you, come again!" - There's lots better service at the McDonald's drive thru! But the coffee and dessert really can't be beat anywhere that I've found in the north end, so just go with your patience (long lines, too!) and enjoy!
Bad Customer Service. I do like the food but, I have tried to order a cake here and they are just rude about giving exactly 48 hours notice. I called and it was 45 hours before and they told me that they couldn't do it. They then told me that they do not sell cakes out of the display. They want to be able to sell the cake by the slice. I even told them that I would pay the same price that they would sell for an individual. I will no longer eat there and will tell everyone that I know.....
Great comfort food. Love the tomato basil soup, salads and mac and cheese. Great breakfast also- there was a line of customers waiting for them to open recently. Fresh ingredients, well seasoned, generous servings. Always pleasant customer service. Can't beat the atmosphere at Third Place Books commons either.
Homemade Deliciousness in LFP. I take my son to the Honey Bear all the time and I've never been disappointed with their service or their delicious food! Everything tastes like its homemade, and that's really unique for a restaurant these days. Honey Bear Bakery's espresso is also top-notch, and I am a barista so I am pretty picky! My three year-old son absolutely LOVES their mac-and-cheese, and I am a big fan of their sandwiches and salads. I also *highly* recommend the chocolate peanut butter cake for dessert - I'm not even a chocolate lover and this cake is to die for!
Poor customer service. We were very disappointed when, after finding not just one hair, but one in each of our two dishes, the cashiers didn't believe us, and said since we couldn't show them the hairs, there was no proof. It wasn't without adamently stating that indeed there were hairs, that they finally refunded our costs. Very disappointing.
Rude Arrogant Dessert-Nazzi's (worst possible service).
I used to live in Ravenna, frequented the Third Place Bookstore in Ravenna and occasionally ate food there so I was familiar with Honey Bear Bakery desserts (they provide desserts to the store in Ravenna). My saga starts with trying to buy a Birthday cake for my son's birthday party.
First, I went there two weeks ahead of time and talked to them about ordering a cake. They told me to come back a couple of days ahead of time. Okay, fine, not very professional but alright.
I go there two days ahead of time and try to order the cake. Well, now I was not within the 48 hour time limit of ordering a cake. Please bear in mind that I am in the Honey Bear Bakery at 6pm Thursday trying to order a cake for 2pm birthday party on Saturday, 43 HOURS ahead of time. But not the Nazzi required 48 HOURS!
This, I think to myself at the time, is ridiculous. However, I am nothing but patient and talk to the manager who tells me to come Saturday and talk with the CAKE CHEF. (It's a little ridiculous that the manager of this little tiny place cannot bake a cake. But I digress).
I go Saturday morning and talk with the Cake chef. She tells me that I can come back later and pick up a cake. WHAT? I explain that the manager told me to come back Saturday and talk with her. "So", she says. "So"? WTH? Anyway, I ask her if I can pick up a chocolate cake. She then proceeds to tell me that she does not know what types of cakes she is going to make and that she cannot guarantee that she'll make a chocolate cake and that she cannot even tell me if she will have a chance to make any cakes that are not already sold. What?
At this point, it is easier for me to bake a cake or at least buy a cake from a company that actually cares about their customers. Or a company that would actually like to sell a cake. What they do at Honey Bear Baker is anybody's guess.
Please buy from someplace that actually cares about their customers. Or from someplace that actually enjoys making cakes.
I agree - terrible service. I also have had terrible service several times at this place. It's a shame, because their food is pretty good - but I won't go back because I don't need the "attitude" - from both the servers and cooks. I don't know what the problem is here, but it seems like a very unhappy staff.
