A lip-smackin' taste of the past!.
The friend who met me at the airport when I arrived at SEATAC last month was a retired senior pilot with one of the major airlines out of Seattle. Therefore, he knew all the eating places in the area. It was suppertime, and he didn't hesitate to recommend his favorite spot, Dave's Diner. Off we went! When I looked at the menu, I saw the item that I had ordered every time I joined my father for lunch in my youth. It was veal cutlet with white gravy, and I hadn't seen it on a menu for many years. Despite all the other tempting choices, I ordered the cutlet and was quite happy that I had. It was, like the diner itself, something memorable from the past. I'm to fly from my Alaska home to Seattle again this month ? this time with my wife. You can bet that we've already made plans to eat at Dave's Diner! Maybe I'll order something new or simply take that same dish full of happy memories ? the veal cutlet. Oh, I had cream pie for dessert the last (and only) time, too, and it was very good. Another reviewer says that they serve malts. I hadn't even thought of that, but you can be sure that I will do so this time. I'm supposed to be on a diet, but shhhh! Dave's Diner, here I come, ready to loosen my belt and chow down old-timey style!
You want an old fashion diner?.
I watch a friends place at least every 8 weeks that is right on Angle Lake and I do NOT like having to go to the SC Mall for takeout. Almost everyday I drive by Dave's Diner and wonder why I have not tried it or why no one has recomended it.
After 2 years of trying to get a 'review'-- we decided to 'go it alone'. Dave's Diner is a CLASSIC diner in every sense. I am not old enough to remember family dinners around the table nor did I grow up in a 'Meat & Potato's' house. If you want that old 50's/60's/timeless American Diner--- this is the place!!
The staff is friendly and they seat you quick as well as get you water, beverage, and your order (if you are ready.)There is ALL the ambiance of a 50's malt shop or burger joint and the food fits the environs. I went with friends who all seemed very excited about the chance for a meat loaf with gravy plate, the fried chicken dinner, or a classic like a heated Reuben with Fries and a Malt.
Everyone that ordered was satisfied and nostalgic. (My Mom this and my grandmother that!) and to top it off-- they have pies and cobblers galore with the option on "a la mode"-- Everyoone opted for dessert, which I NEVER see from my friends at a DOWNTOWN joint.
My only regret was I was the only one to not have a 'potroast/chicken fried steak' jones-- so I ordered the Halibut & Chips knowing that the Alaska season was in swing and I had been waiting. If you want Fresh and delightful Fish & Chips or a seafood Linguine-- this is not your place. But I am the snob-- the place is called Dave's Diner and I should have ordered what I originally wanted----- The reuben sandwich with EXTRA Sourkraut, Grilled Onions, & Swiss-- or the Philly Chese steak.
If you want the CLASSIC "malt shop" diner experience-- this is it!! The food is not something that brings people from all over the world, but if you want a Burger with Malt and sit in a booth with fast friendly service-- this turns back the clock!!
