In Short
Claiming to be the first indoor climbing gym in the country, Vertical World has offered a wealth of challenging top-rope, lead climbing and bouldering since 1987. There's 14,000 square feet of climbing surface, a separate bouldering section and plenty of top-rope routes. Vertical World also offers weightlifting equipment for serious climbers interested in working a specific muscle group.

Know Before You Go

Routes in the bouldering room are quite challenging--most are beyond a beginner's ability--but balanced between vertical and severely overhung walls.

If you've climbed at other gyms and haven't climbed at vertical world, get ready for a treat! Theese are the best fake panels to climb on. Instead of just plain old boards, The walls have a texture on them with features just the right size for edging on. This is the only gym in the world to have these because they have a patent on the panels. They also sell these for about as much as it costs to make them. Did I mention this gym is really clean and well maintained? You will sure get a lot more bang for your buck than in other gyms! If you get a membership and climb a lot, It will be a really good deal. The instructors have a lot of experience in climbing. Jane especially; she really knows what she is doing when it comes to technique and is very friendly.

Pros: fun, good parking, clean

Cons: long drive

Wood plus a secret concrete compound equals some of the most realistic indoor climbing around.  See the full editorial review.
