Old time Seattle at it's best reigns at this pint sized u-district screening room whose offerings tend toward the esoteric and cult.
Nothing but good things to say - Brilliant!. The Grand Illusion Cinema is the most brilliant, sweet, inspiring, romantic movie house ever. It's been like a fixture for many years and continues to be cutting edge and classy.
This worn, beloved theater specializes in obscure titles and strange cult favorites..
In Short
This U-District theater started its life in 1970, and was said to have sparked Seattle's infatuation with indie flicks. But by the mid-'90s, film-goers could find the same arty movies in much fancier theaters. The Grand Illusion was saved by the Northwest Film Forum, an energetic group of Capitol Hill-based filmmakers who wanted to show their favorite experimental and archival films. It's now one of the best spots in town for revival films.
absolutely lovely. i'm a fan of vintage and cozy; this theater encompasses all that... it's great! and the ambience is very laid back, where everyone is just there to enjoy a strange movie... the staff are very friendly too!
Fantastic. The Grand Illuision is a theater run by people who love movies and it shows. Often before the movie starts one of the staff will share some insights or trivia about the movie that makes it all the more fun. The movies themselves are great - things you may never see anywhere else.
