Editorial Review for Kirkland Performance Center – by Starla Smith

The Experience
Located in a downtown Kirkland Park near the waterfront, this theater opened in June 1998 and is the newest addition to the Eastside's cultural renaissance. Since there's no mind-numbing commute across the car-clogged bridges to Seattle simply to "get culture," the Center sells itself as the "Eastside's Bridge to the Performing Arts." The 402-seat theater is spacious, yet retains an intimate feeling. The farthest seat is just 13 rows from the stage and the steep rake provides excellent sight lines throughout the theater.

In the Know
Its diverse 2000-2001 season ranges from legendary jazz trumpet man, Clark Terry, to the Seattle Children's Theatre and the ancient musical ritual of Tibetan Monks, who will create a Mandala Sand Painting--which takes millions of grains of sand--during their visit to the Center.

Nice 'n roomy

Seats are ample; in some rows the legroom exceeds code by as much as a foot.

If you can see someone you like here, you'll be SOOO happy! This is a great theatre. Coming from LA, I wasn't sure what to expect. The Kirkland Center is small and intimate, but still professional and accomodating. There are only 13 rows in this theatre, so there LITERALLY isn't a bad seat in the house. ** The easiest way to get here from Seattle is the bus. Even being from out of town, it was a simple one bus route, for $3...instead of a $40 cab ride. Call up the metro and give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised. **PS. Check at the Pike market. there is a guy in a booth selling tickets to varrious attractions, you can get your same day tickets here 1/2 price. I found this out too late! :(

Pros: intimate, take bus from Seattle
