In Short
The Olmsted brothers designed this 45-acre park in 1904 with formal gardens, a vine-covered pergola, circling drives and a greenhouse conservatory. Volunteer Park was first called City Park, but it was renamed in 1901 to honor volunteers of the Spanish-American War.The park's winding paths are perfect for jogging or cycling, though many active Seattleites are drawn to the tennis courts. Kids romp on the jungle gym and splash in the summertime wading pool.
