Upscale environment meets mid-priced entrees at this large, independently owned dining establishment. The bright-red booths face an inviting bar area, and funky art adorns the walls. The menu is a mix of American standards, like fried chicken and mashed potatoes, and other rotating seasonal items. Desserts include cobbler a la mode, served with a cup of Caffe Vita.

I loved my breakfast here! It was fresh, delicious and filling. I had the All Seasons Scramble ($9.50) with mushrooms, zucchini, spinach, cherry tomatoes & chevre with toast and hash browns. It was fresh and light because of all the veggies. My latte was also delicious. We sat in the bar area with the interesting, beautiful wall of windows separating us from the main eating area and the entrance.

This is my first written review for a restaurant. I am writing this review because the luncheon meal we had at the Atlas last week was possibly one of the worst meals we have ever had. Both the presentation of the food and the taste were completely unappealing and unappetizing. When our plates arrived at our table, the french fries were mostly black in color. We thought they were burned. These fries were not burned, they were limp, oily and tasteless. We could not figure out why the french fries were so black in color -- it wasn't from the addition of cajun spices because the fries had no flavor. If these fries were some kind of new, designer potato, it didn't work for us. I got a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw. The pork was tough, stringy and dried out. The barbeque sauce was much too spicy. I could only eat half of this sandwich because the sauce was fiery hot in an unpleasant way. The cabbage in the coleslaw was chopped in huge chunks. What little dressing there was on the cabbage was thin, watery and tasteless. My husband got fish and chips -- the fish was cold in the middle. We will never eat there again.

My husband I love going out to breakfast and have tried most of the good restaurants in Seattle. When we go out to breakfast we are looking for good service and good portion sizes. I ordered the Monte Cristo breakfast sandwich. I have never had a Monte Cristo before so being that my husband use to be in the restaurant industry he explained to me what it was. When the sandwich arrived he thought they gave me the wrong thing. It was a tiny open face sandwich with a piece of ham and cheese on it. The tiny sandwich came with a piece of pineapple and melon...no potatoes, hashbrowns, nothing! My husband got the Cornbeef Hash that took up 1/4 of his plate and 1/4 to fruit and that was it. Do not have breakfast at the Atlas- it's a joke! It is pretty hard to screw up breakfast, but they manage to do so. If you want good breakfast in the University area go to Portage Bay. Our favorite place is in Queen Anne- Queen Anne Cafe.
