Editorial Review for Gene Juarez Salons & Spa – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
The front desk and the urban, brighly lit salon have a fitting air of sophisticated chaos. However, there's a quick escape: the tranquil, feng shui-adapted waiting room. There, after changing into spa clothes and a luxurious robe, spa-goers are treated to an aromatic foot soak by the spa hostess. Services include the standards--facials, body-wraps, manicures, massages, mud masques--and more.

My first message. I called the GJ Academy for an hair cut appt. Got in fairly soon. It was a Saturday so parking was easy. I got there a little early, and at the time of my appt. I was told they were running a little behind and they asked if I wanted to wait. I said I didn't mind. A student hairdresser came to me about 5 minutes later and introduced herself, then asked if I wanted something to drink. I said coffee would be fine. The coffee was great. My hair was really long, I asked her to cut at least 4 inches and when she showed me how that would look it looked like it was too much so she cut about 2-3 inches off. Her instructor came over and checked things out and helped with suggestions. I got a great hair cut and will return again. Less than a week later I had a spa pedicure, would recommend to everyone. Service was excellent. Thanks Gene Juarez students! Victoria P.

I usually go to the Gene Juarez at Northgate Mall because it is closer and parking isn't such a hassle as it is downtown. I got the usual "Bionutrient facial" but they changed the name because they changed product lines. The lady was rude and in a hurry the whole time not to mention I left with superficial abrasions beside my eyes that lasted for almost two weeks!! They gave me my money back, but after the experience and embarrassment from what they did to my face, it was definitely NOT enough. I do NOT recommend going there. I have been to several Gene Juarez salons and I have bad experiences with certain Aestheticians but I go back choosing someone different; this time I have learned a lesson and will never go back not even for a haircut.
