In Short – When UW students need a break from the dreary library, they grab an oar and go paddling in Lake Washington. Patrons choose between a canoe or rowboat, head across the Montlake Cut, duck under the 520 floating bridge and explore the lilypadded lagoons near the Arboretum's Foster Island. Lifejackets and oars are included in the rental fee; the staff provides an area map and will gladly offer tips on traversing the Cut.
Editor's Tips
- Parking:
- Park in the lot southeast of Husky Stadium and walk down to the water, where the center is located. Parking is free after noon on Saturday and all day Sunday.
- Know Before You Go:
- You must be at least 18 (with I.D. to prove it) to rent a boat. Three fit into a canoe, four into a rowboat--no exceptions.
- Save Money:
- UW students, faculty, staff and alums all receive discounts.
- When to Go:
- Summer weekends are extremely popular and crowded, so arrive early.
