The Scene
Opened in 1926 atop the Camlin Hotel, this venerable establishment was once the height of sophistication (Sinatra visited back in the day). Eleven stories up, it now barely reaches the knees of downtown high-rises.
The Draw
A handsome, dark-wood, clubby place, the smoky lounge draws singles--old and young--on weekends for piano music and flirtation. In the dining room, couples in green Naugahyde chairs soak up city views. The (often noisy) kitchen produces a short menu of contemporary Northwest/Mediterranean food: filet mignon, tableside Caesar salad for two, fish of the day. Results are mixed.

Insider Tips
Celebrity SightingsThe Cloud Room is a great place for celebrity sightings: Actors and musicians performing at the nearby Paramount Theater often drop by for a drink.
Reservations RequiredIf you're planning on having dinner with your cocktails, call ahead--diners must have reservations.
Watch Your WalletThe great view comes with a price--liquors are significantly pricier than most downtown bars, so ask before you order that top-shelf scotch.

The first time I stepped into the Cloud Room, I was delighted by the view. The food was exceptional (I was there for breakfast and had a traditional meal.) On subsequent visits I have been equally impressed. I usually have lunch there (my favorite is the wonderful veggie sandwich.) There is something for whatever mood I am in. When I do have dinner there, I am equally pleased, although the show crowd can be hectic; the Camlin is right across from the Paramount. FOr Dinner Only just make sure to leave at least an hour and show up on time and you'll be cool.
Pros: Great food, good prices, great view

The Cloud Room Restaurant is one of downtown Seattle's hidden treasures. From the sparkling skyline view to the exquisite food, the Cloud Room at the Camlin Hotel is superb. I started with an appetizer of artichoke and arugala dip served with pita. It was redolent with fresh herbs and cheese- and there was enough for two! I then had the lamb that was done to perfection and served with delicious roast garlic mashed potatoes. My date had the seafood ensemble- a dungeness crab cake nicely perfumed with saffron, a filet of halibut crusted with pistachios, and a filet of salmon with fresh herbs- each with it's own wonderful sauce. The service was nicely reserved in keeping with the Old World charm of the room. The wine selection was modest yet appropriate. I heartily recommend this fine establishment to anyone looking a romantic getaway in the city.
Pros: Intimate Dining, Exellent Food
