What Our Expert Scouts Say

Attic
October 12, 2012

Chances are, anyone who lives in Madison Park has been to The Attic at least once. The energy emanating out of this tiny bar is contagious. The folks here are regulars, the place looks like it's been around forever, and people actually come FOR the food it's so good. Beers on tap, friendly service--you can't beat it.

The Attic ? A Great Pub Located in Madison Park. The attic has the best wings in Seattle and rotates 20 taps full of local beers. It has been around for 50+ years, yet survives on quality of the food, location, and serves as the local hangout. I had there mushroom and swiss burger (you can build your own burger), which is in my top 5 for burgers in Seattle. I am an IPA fan, they had three choices on tap. It?s hard to miss any sports with the 15 flat screens, one for every corner. I asked if the have the NFL ticket, they do. They told me to show up on Sundays and request the game of my choice. As long as there is a TV available you will have the opportunity to watch your game and have breakfast (only served on the weekends). It?s tough to image a place that was built in the 50?s to be too clean, but they must call it the attic for some reason.

Great bar food almost outweighted by their HORRIBLE service and dirty atmosphere.. In order to enjoy The Attic's good food you have to put up with a bunch of the crappiest, moodiest, dingbat waitstaff that there ever was. Literally at least 60% of the time we've eaten there, one of the waiters ends up eating his/her dinner while they're working. And rather than taking their meal to the back, they'll stand behind the bar and eat their sloppy burger in front of us all, talking with their mouths full to the other waiters, using their hands to grab any dangling food from their mouth and shove it all in. Oh and when they finally see that they have a table that's been waiting for a drink refill for the last ten minutes, they'll head over to finally get to it without washing their hands first. It really should be no suprise that the waiters are that clueless to cleanliness -- all you have to do is tilt your head up to the ceiling the see a layer of dirt and dust an inch thick (I'm not kidding) on all the memoraibila they have nailed to the rafters. If you do dare to go there -- take a look at the hockey skate attached to an overhead beam. You may just v0mit a little in your mouth. You'll definately lose your appetite.

Don't be suprised if you never get one refill, have to wait 15 minutes for your check and another 10 for them to swipe your card and bring it back. Collen (the manager) will make you feel horribly unwelcomed either by rolling her eyes at you when you ask for anything, tell you to get it yourself, completely ignore you or say things that are totally insulting. I know she thinks it's cute and funny -- she tries to be "Carla" from Cheers -- but it's not funny and I've seen people walk out because of it.

Oh, and always ALWAYS double-check your bill -- they're known for overcharging or adding extra drinks to your tab. We used to not look and just hand 'em our card -- now we realize they count on that and overcharge us all the time and we see it happen to others as well.

It's good food, just be prepared for the worst service ever.

Great food, Great beer; lousy service. This place is a refreshing break from the trendiness of Madison Park. It's a low-key joint. It's got great beer, and good food. Prices are reasonable. Multiple tv's so that everyone can watch the game no matter where they're sitting. The only drawback is the service-- especially the guys who work there. They're ridiculously serious for working in a pub-- and not very welcoming. Can put you off.

Decent spot for a beer. A relaxing bar with a good beer selection, the Attic is a nice spot to sip on a pint with some friends. The food is average, and the service pretty curt and sloppy.

Great Food & Sassy Service. I've been eating here since the late 80's, almost once a week...love the breakfast on the weekends (cheap and cheerful) the real treat is Colleen, our sassy server who rules the roost. Favorites are the grilled sandwiches, salads (surprise for a tavern are excellent) and nachos. Lot's of TV's so you can watch just about everything from CNN to sports. It's the "real" Madison Park club where they know your name and remember what you like to drink and eat.

Silver-haired Madison Park ladies and young bloods have been congregating here for ale and chow for nearly 50 years.. The Scene
It's definitely a neighborhood bunch out for a beer and a bite, but even interlopers are warmly welcomed in this woody, well-lit but not too bright bar. Take a seat at the bar and watch them hustle in the kitchen, share a table with other beer drinkers or grab one of the more private booths. Wherever you sit you'll have a view of the tube since there are eight strategically placed TVs for catching a game.

The Draw
Decent chicken wings, sandwiches and burgers go well with the healthy selection of brews (including some from the U.K.), but skip the pre-fab fries. If you're in the mood for dinner, try one of the nightly rotating specials or menu standards: spaghetti and meatballs, lasagne, seafood dishes and the totally tender prime rib on Saturday night.

Solid Madison Park choice... THis is a FINE place to grab a couple beers, a burger and listen to some Dead on Thursday nights. Good young set of Madison Park aspiring yuppies mixed in w/ older neighborhood regulars gives this place "character". This place is comfortable, consistent and exudes the laid back attitude you'd come to expect from such a 'joint'...

Good Eats to Chill. This is a great place to chill and hang out with your friends any time of day. The menu is tasty, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is nice. It can get crowded at times, but that's the same with any other place. Definitely the highlight of Madison Park.
