What Our Expert Scouts Say

Sure, it's expensive. But, hey, have you seen the view? The revolving restaurant high on The Space Needle doesn't get the credit it deserves for putting out some very fine food. The farm-to-table mission is evident all over the menu, but especially on the all-Northwest wine list. Bravo! Reservations are essential.

Fine dining for those who appreciate a fine dining experience.. We had a wonderful meal last Sunday. After reading the previous review I was a little hesitant but

I have dined there several times over the last 20 years and its always been a good experience.

The Steak and Lobster were excellant and my steak was cooked as I had requested. There was a question as to how well done the Lamb should be prepared but our server was very helpful and directed us in the right choice. If you enjoy fine dining with a view this is the only place in Seattle to go.

disappointing staff, food, drinks, & decor. We had our company party at The Space Needle's Sky Line Room. Luckily the kareoke & good company helped take the attention away from the staff, food, drinks & decor! The bartender was flat out mean & rude. Just looking at and smelling the food was enough for me to decide not to eat (I had heard they had bad food, but did not expect it to be that bad). My martini was served in a water glass (enough said ). The decor is simply stated 80's (aka 20+ yrs too old). Overall I would describe our company party as fun but it felt like we were in a seady creeepy bar / hotel (which I don't think our compayny was quite going for). The Space Needle has some major changes to make and needs to get their act together!

Even the view does NOT make up for all the problems with it!. Plain and simple - DO NOT EAT THERE! I cannot stress this enough. Great atmosphere and view should generally be able to make up for some other problems, and it barely did so here.

At $40+ per entee, you get a well presented dish (credit given where due!) that is not too far removed in flavor form tree bark - that was my halibut. Similarly, soda noodles were so sweet you'd think it was a desert dish. Not to mentioned the tofu in it - rubber. Deserts, the lunar express (the smoking ice-cream - a must see) and strawberry rhubarb cobbler were of average quality. Cold seafood platter we split for appetizer deserves a B-.

By contrast, at Purple, where we stopped by for some appetizers and wine before dinner, the food was beyond excellent! Could that have raised our expectations? I don't think so. After all, wouldn't you expect a well prepared and delicious meal for 40 greens?

P.S. To summarize: View: A; Service: B; Food: D-

overpriced food with an unbeatable view. The restaurant at the Space Needle was extremely disappointing from a culinary standpoint. The menu choices were limited and when the food arrived, it was mediocre to average, certainly not what one would expect given the high prices of the entrees. For example, I had a prime rib that was about as tasteless as one would get at a hotel banquet facility. The view of course can't be beat - you get the whole Seattle skyline and the bay from a vantage point like no other in the city. My recommendation would be to go for drinks & the view then go elsewhere to eat dinner.

Don't eat there!. I live in Seattle for many years and always heard very mediocre review for the restaurant at Space Needle. I had some out-of-town friends who really want to try it so I took them there. It was a VERY BIG MISTAKE. I had expected the food to be mediocre. Indeed the food was not very good. The service was even worse! Our table was not ready until almost .5 hour after our reservation time. Because they were running so late, they decided to hurry us. We did not get any bread even though we specifically ask for it. We were not offered coffee/tea with dessert even though those items were included in the per person brunch price. The only good thing I can say about this place is the view is nice. I will never go back to the over-priced restaurant with so-so food and terrible service. If I could, I would have given it a negative rating.

Surprisingly Great Food. I've been reading reviews about the restaraunt and it's new management this summer, trying to decide if I really did want to take my out of town boyfriend there. In the end, I did and it was definitely a great choice. Obviously the reason to go is for the view, which you should be sure to request a window table for, but the food was surprisngly great! I had the Alaskan King Salmon with a Thai ginger seasoning and he had the seafood pasta and both were lovely dishes. They also brought a complimentary bread basket with a delicious lavender butter spread. The waitress, however, was the only complaint we had. Seeing that we were two college kids, she made it her mission to try to turn our table over as quick as possible. But by no means let that turn you away from this experience - we spent about 4 hours at the top, mostly just walking around the observation deck gazing at the beautiful scenery. A must-do for a romantic evening!!!

Don't go for the food. The only reason to go there is the view period. The food isn?t even good enough to be half the price it is ? really. My partner ordered a steak medium (he like meat cooked, it?s very sad) ? it came completely cooked through, no pink at all! Ack! I ordered the lobster/linguini dish ? the lobster, what little of it there was, was TOUGH ? and I mean chewy tough. Oh gosh, it was terrible, shockingly bad. Our waiter was very nice and very attentive. The appetizer was unimpressive, but fine (crab cakes) and the martinis we ordered were satisfactory. It?s disappointing because this place has so much potential, the view is wonderful, everyone is very nice, it?s just the food that needs work?. Kinda important for a restaurant!

Try the icecream dessert !. They have a signature dessert that smokes like a volcano. It's really cool looking and tops off an enjoyable meal.

Great View, Disappointing Experience. Shortly after my boyfriend moved to Seattle from San Francisco, he surprised me with a celebratory date to the Space Needle for dessert and drinks. He made the reservation for a Thursday evening to have dessert and drinks and was told that there was a $25 minimum purchase per person. Once we arrived, we were seated and given dinner menus. We explained to our server that we were intending to order dessert and drinks and we requested the dessert menu. He reminded us about the $25 minimum, which we said would not be a problem, and he returned with the dessert menu. While we were reviewing the dessert selection and deciding which bottle of champagne to order, he returned to our table with a manager who said that the $25 minimum applied only to food purchases, and if we were not going to be ordering dinner we would need to leave the restaurant so that other dinner patrons could have our table. We tried to explain that this was not clearly communicated when we specifically made a reservation to have dessert and drinks, but we were unapologetically asked to either order dinner or leave. I was genuinely offended and disappointed in the type of service and lack of respect that we received, particularly when we were prepared to spend a great deal more than $50. We politely left our disappointing date, but will not be returning to the Space Needle, especially when there are so many other great restaurants in the city!

Completely Wonderful!. If you don't already know, the SkyCity restaurant at the Space Needle was newly remodeled and redone! There is a new chef in town (actually a Master Chef - of which there are only 61 worldwide!). The new decor was absolutely breathtaking! Forget all the reviews you've heard, because one week ago (as of Feb 20th) all things were made new : ) Our service was flawless ... we never had to ask for more of anything, because every time we turned around it was there. The servers were warm and friendly as well. The view, as others wrote below, is absolutely incredible and indescribable, really. The food was impeccable! The menu was fun to read and very well written. I can't say enough : ) My wife and I love fine dining and visit great restaurants around the country as we travel for work and pleasure. It was definitely one of my favorite restaurants and worth the prices! I'd go back in a heartbeat! ...oh, I recommend the berry cobbler for dessert!
