1940s-style diner chain serves comfort food classics to patrons with a craving for nostalgia..
In Short
In 1982, businessman Doug Cavanaugh opened the first Ruby's in Southern California's Newport Beach, naming it after his mother. Today, this nationwide chain--adorned with red vinyl booths, Formica tables, soda fountains and retro posters--features the same timeless food and hospitality that keep diners coming back. Favorites are the classic burgers topped with secret RubySauce, fries and sweet shakes. Other staples include pancakes, omelettes, sandwiches, chili, salads and a variety of fountain treats.

Great for alternative breakfasteers!.
While this place is known for its burgers, this is also one of my favorite breakfast joints on the Eastside - and the only place I can find turkey sausage since I do not partake in The Swine. The breakfast burrito is to die for.
The waitresses are cute & friendly, and the model trains running overhead occasionally derail for some amusement over the meal. Worth the regional drive.
and don't forgett the dessert!.
Wow!
Don't forget the ice cream...from banana split to vanillas...eat without guilt, like in the 50's!
Contrived, but good..
The extent to which they stick to the 50's motif is kind of scary. The white tiles on the floor and walls makes it seem kind of like you're eating in a very well-cleaned bathroom.
Classic diner food. There aren't many greazy burger and wing places in this area, but Ruby's fills the gap, a little bit. I'm not too put-off by the grease, because, well ... that's what they cook french fries in. It's a good sign, when the restaurant even cares about the silly little side salads, too. Ruby's is the place to go for those burger/fry/shake cravings.
Fun, boisterous, no Muzak!. The burgers are somewhere between McDonalds and Red Robin. The "lite" fries may be lower cal but are also lite in appeal (soggy). The shakes and other desserts are super. And you can get a veggie burger or turkey patty- you woudn't have found that at any 50's diner! I have always had prompt, if not lavish, service. One kicker at Ruby's is the music- pre 50's if you will, mainly big band swing. Which I love- kept wanting to jump out of the booth and dance!
never again. ick. the food was miserably greasy, left me feeling ill all day. the service was also poor - 1/2 our table got their food right away, then it was at least 5 minutes until the other 1/2 got to eat. it's slightly overpriced for a burger joint but not too bad $-wise. regardless, i'll skip ruby's next time.
STYLE IS EVERYTHING. I WENT TO THIS RESTERAUNT WITH MY MOTHER AND SHE LOVED THE PLACE PARTIALLY BECAUSE THE FOOD AND PARTIALLY BECAUSE IT BROUGHT BACK MEMORIES OF HOW THINGS USED TO BE. THE WAITERS AND WAITRESSES ARE DRESSED IN THE UNIFORMS OF OLD AND SERVE GREAT FOOD FOR AS GOOD OF VALUE AS CAN BE EXPECTED FROM A SIT-IN. I RECOMMEND SKIPPING THE BOOTHS AND GOING RIGHT TO THE COUNTER BECAUSE MOST TIMES YOU CAN WALK IN AND SIT RIGHT DOWN AT THE COUNTER INSTEAD OF WAITING TO BE SEATED. THEIR FOOD IS GREAT. THE BURGERS ARE EXCELLENT AS IS THE DESSERT. OH MY! THE DESSERT IS EXCELLENT.
My Favorite!. There are tons of these restaurants down in California. Every time we go down there we look forward to eating at "Rubys" with our relatives. I'm soooo excited that they have now opened one in Washington!!!
Nice Style.
I liked the 50's Style.
The diner style is fun and i like the uniforms.
Great fun, better burgers at Quincy's at the center house though.
