Editorial Review for District – by Allison Austin
In Short
A comfortable theater-themed space that doesn't carry the metaphor too far. A row of stage lights illuminates the waitstation, and proscenium arches are simulated along the walls. The menu features American bistro dishes like crab cakes, chicken under a brick, fresh oysters and various seafood dishes. The breakfast menu lists omelettes, pancakes and more. Creme brulee, cheesecake and warm chocolate cake are among the dessert choices.

I took my friend there for her bday prior to a show. She was visiting from out of town and wanted a real "NY" place, whatever that meant exactly. The real NY places aren't really in the theatre district, but we were seeing a show on a Friday night, so not much choice on location. We called to say we were running about 30 minutes late and not only did they hold our table, but couldn't have been nicer about it. Our waiter, Victor, asked if we were seeing a show & correctly assured us that we had plenty of time for 3 courses, which we did, along w/a lovely bread basket served w/olive oil w/garlic/butter or balsamic vinegar choice. Bread was scrumptous-worth the carbs! The menu was eclectic and the food DELICIOUS!! I got the shrimp risotto and my friend said her skirt steak was the best she's ever had. THe waiter was very helpful telling us what was lighter fare vs. more hearty meals. Dessert was cookies and cream which was chocolate mousse w/cream spread on plate and some other delicious form of chocolate. ONly complaint is that wine by the glass was pricey. We got ala carte items off menu which were reasonable around $20-$25, but the house red wine by the glass was $16 each-ouch. The prix fixe has a good deal where for $20 or so you get 3 glasses of wine, one with each course, so perhaps worth it. They gave us a complimentary appetizer, so that made up for the wine cost and was delicious gouda cheese w/pear pate and strawberry. I will go back and soon. Oh, I almost forgot, I really wanted to avoid that theatre district loudness w/tourists crawling over each other's table and could not have created a prettier atmosphere. The decor is very upscale, but the ltg was lower so very comfortable. Great place fora romantic dinner too. My friend said it was one of the best meals she ever had. Go, go, go-but don't tell too many people about it!!
Pros: Food, service, atmosphere, location
Cons: single glass of wine is pricey

Just recently visited this theatre district restaurant. My food was excellent. Yellow Tuna appetizer was great, as was my Filet, which was prepared with Blue Cheese. My guest had poor luck w/ the popcorn topped salad and her chicken. Desserts were very good. Service was not the greatest, as the waiter was not attentive enough and nearly caused us to miss our show. Would try again, but hope for more attentive service. If seeing an 8pm play...make sure to book your reservation for 6pm or earlier.
Pros: FOOD, GOOD VALUE, ATMOSPHERE
Cons: SERVICE
