Editorial Review for Ty's Bar – by Tony Phillips
The Scene
Its name is stenciled in gold, law firm-style, across the front picture window. A chain link spider web hangs from the black tin ceiling. You can even find last year's bar softball league champions, the Ballbreakers, here. But this 30-year-old watering hole is more than the sum of its parts. A jeaned and T-shirted clientele--ranging from those carded at the door to those carded at Stonewall--makes for a lively, volatile mix. If you're unknown in these parts, be prepared to introduce yourself, because this crowd will ask.
The Draw
The bar was once owned by a proprietor who named each of his establishments after its head bartender--and there are folks inside who could tell you stories about Ty. Whether you're one of those regulars or visiting for the first time, you know you're in a bartender's bar. Small touches make it easy to get as comfortable here as you would in your own living room. Maybe that explains Thursday night's "Will & Grace" party.

Have never experienced so much attitude in my life as from the clueless, rude doorman, and the crowd inside is sketchy. Lots of sloppy drunks and broken down messes. FAIL.

If you're an out-of-towner this place is a great starting point . Rare to find a bar where the staff is friendly to more that just an inner clique . Very friendly - mixed crowd - nobody seems out of place .Relaxed atmosphere. Not many places where music is set at level where you hear people talk without whole room listening . You can actually see instead of hiding in the dark . Always seems busy enough that when door opens the whole bar doesn't stop and turn like some spots .
Pros: Nice staff , Friendly Crowd , No Attitude
Cons: No bag check
