Message from Typhoon! Redmond

Typhoon! Redmond

We're rapidly emerging as one of America's top Thai restaurants.

  • Fresh, authentic ingredients
  • Premium teas
  • Catering, Banquet Facilities

From humble beginnings on Northwest 23rd, Chef Bo Kline and Typhoon! have become icons of the Northwest food scene. Blending classic Thai hospitality with contemporary style, Bo?s unique menu is inspired by the pushcarts of the peasants and the palaces of her native Thailand. The perfect balance of bitter, sweet, salty and sour flavors will burst in your mouth as you savor her repertoire, which includes traditional favorites, rediscovered dishes lost in time and cutting-edge nouvelle Thai cuisine.

Lauded by Bon Appetit as one of "the hottest chefs in America" and praised in rave reviews throughout the nation, Bo keeps the publicity in clear perspective. "Each night," she says, "the entire staff knows the only review that counts is yours."

Editorial Review for Typhoon! Redmond – by Citysearch Staff

In Short
Chef/owner Bo Kline and her husband Steve have white linen napkins and black iron tea pots decorating tables; thick bamboo poles serve as room separators. A gigantic open kitchen allows for a show, though usually the display is less than dramatic. Start with the authentic Thai miang kum: spinach leaves serve as wrappers for any combination of toasted coconut, ginger, lime, peanuts, chilis, dried shrimp.

About a month ago, me and 2 co workers went to Typhoon for lunch. Personally I have not been to this location in over 5 years. No real reason, just have not. Well, unfortunately I now do have a reason for making it another 5 or more years before I return. My co workers and I were seated out on the patio. Our waiter came over to take our order, and I could not help but notice that something seemed slightly off with him? He was acting...a little slow. We shall just say that. Anyways, my co worker ordered the Panang Curry (zero stars) I ordered the Drunken Noodles (as hot as I could order them. I love spice) My other co worker ordered the Dungeness Crab stir fried rice (he orders this every time he comes to Typhoon) All 3 of our orders were wrong in some way. My co workers Panang had my super hot spice in it and I had her zero spice. I had to request a spice tray and apply liberally as there was no spice at all. The Dungeness Crab fried rice, came out as Dungeness Crab Phad Thai. My co worker sent it back, but had happily noticed the heaping pile of crab on top. He of course thought when the new dish came out the crab would be piled on as well! Not so much. When the new stir friend dish came out, he had to dig and dig and dig to find a few small morsels of crab. When he called over management and said the "wrong" dish had piles of crab, and now the "correct" had but maybe a few morsels of crab, the manager looked at him and literally could have cared less. Our waiter throughout the meal hardly stopped by and when he did, he just looked...slow...and well...not all there. We all left dissapointed as our bill was about $50.00 and all 3 meals were wrong in one way or another. It might have been an off day for them, but still no excuse to mess up all 3 orders.

Pros: Great decorating inside

Cons: Staff

This place used to be good a year ago, but not so anymore. The past several times I've come to eat here have been very disappointing. The phad thai is almost tasteless, no spice, and they don't ask you how many stars you'd like. We are only given water if we ask for it, and the waitress did not refill our drinks at all. The prices are way too high for the bland food you are getting, and doesn't include any rice. The swimming rama consisted of soggy lettuce and no spinach, and only a few small pieces of chicken which I was charged extra for. It's very clear that all the effort at this restaurant went into the decorations instead of the food or service. I will not eat here again ever. Look around for a more authentic Thai restaurant.

Pros: beautifully decorated

Cons: everything else
