Editorial Review for Fetch – by Kathy Schultz

The Scene
This upscale boutique and pet shop carries both expendables and basics. There are cashmere sweaters for your dog, along with cologne and the all-important collar studded with miniature bones made of Swarovski crystals. In the back are shelves stocked with mundane pet food, chews and grooming products; but for those who truly splurge on their pets, one can also find home-baked, organic biscuits available in 15 different flavors.

The Goods

Many of the toys and gifts are reasonably priced and pet-food costs are competitive. Homemade biscuits are 35 cent each; a large porky ear is $1.99; fancy collars range from $20 to $88; coats and sweaters, $20-$125.

This is a fine neighborhood shop with a great selection of boutique dog treats, toys and chews in a very compact space. They have wide selection of dog food, available in small quantities, all quality brands. Fetch is run in conjunction with a dog day care business owned by the same folks, who provide attentive expert and loving care for many of the "best friends" in the neighborhood. I used the day-care portion to provide socialization, stimulation and exercise--while my wife and I were away at work--for my two puppies while they were small, to help them develop. Today, our dogs have their own yard but I give credit for part of their friendly and outogiong nature to the months they spent with the people at Fetch. We still use Fetch daycare occasionally if we are away from town on a day trip where dogs can't go.

Pros: convenient, good location and parking, high-quality pet supplies and food

Cons: like any small shop, limited selection compared to big box

I recently visited this little shop tucked away in the Madrona neighborhood to shop for my newest family member Joey a Havanese. I was pleashantly surprised to find such a wide variety of collars, treats, food and toys in such as small shop. The merchandising was definetly well thought out. The staff was extremely helpful in choosing a food and encouraged me to read labels and educate myself about ingredients and the pros and cons of premium dog foods. Great store and I would highly recommend it.

Pros: Great merchandise, informed staff, fun for me and my dog
