Editorial Review for Fado Irish Pub & Restaurant – by Allison Austin

The Scene
Packed to the gills with Irish memorabilia, Fado (pronounced fa-DOE) is part of a nationwide chain and certainly looks the part. The after-work crowd is right at home, sipping Guinness with co-workers, as are the frat and sorority alums in various stages of saucy that frequent the place as the week wears on.

The Draw
Along with the usual pub fare, there's a wide range of menu items, from curried chicken and Asian salmon to traditional Irish dishes like shepherd's pie and boxty (potato pancakes rolled and stuffed with a choice of fillings). Most people come for the liquid attractions: large 20-ounce pints of Irish ales including Caffrey's, Boddington's, Murphy's and (of course) Guinness, and a nice range of Irish whiskeys and scotches, including Laphroaig, Jamison and Glenfiddich.

The menu looked great, but I didn't end up ordering any food because I was so put off by our server's attitude. She threw some menus on the table and then looked at us to get our order. When we asked for a minute to look at the menu, she rolled her eyes and stalked away. She didn't smile once, and didn't respond to our "thank you's". When she came back again and glared at me as I was trying to put in my order, I immediately lost my appetite and just got a beer. I have a feeling that this isn't indicative of the entire Fado staff, but if you get unlucky and get waitstaff like her, it can ruin an otherwise great night. Their live music was fantastic, and the clientele cleaner and not as immature as other places in the area.

Pros: Music, location

Cons: Service

You can get a pint of Guinness anywhere. Alright service but nowhere as good as some of the other reviews claim. Not dingy enough to be an Irish pub. H it or a miss.

Pros: Might be great

Cons: Might not
