Editorial Review for Napa Valley Grille – by Andrea Rademan

The Scene
A haven from the busy Westwood Village scene, this soothing space is done up in earth tones and decked out with murals evoking California's Wine Country. The ample dining room is divided into smaller areas for more privacy, while a pleasant patio bustles with pre-theater patrons and other well-heeled diners.

The Food
This New Jersey-based chain offers Angelenos a take on Napa Valley wining and dining. Oenophiles will appreciate the impressive wine list with more than 300 California varieties (35 are available by the glass). Graze on "little plates" of seared diver scallops or duck prosciutto paired with a matching wine. Entrees from the brick oven are simple but excellent, such as the juicy Chilean sea bass or succulent bone-in veal loin. A few dishes are tricked out with extra frills: Grilled Sonoma quail with fennel confit, micro purple mustard, Cabernet vinaigrette and blue cheese crema is quite a combination.

WOW... what a resurgence this place has made. My office has been a block away since NVG opened and it's better now than ever. New management (summer '08) is much more friendly and professional and the chef really "gets it." The 40 minute guaranteed Business Lunch is a great idea and great execution and the dishes are as light and heathy or as plentiful as you like.... all with being created from some of the freshest ingredients i've had. Happy hour has been reborn with great deals on food you actually Want and the wines by the glass are impressive. And best of all, they do happy hour 3-7 And 9-12.... perfect for pre or post movie or Theater. I've been in LA all my life so you get immune to the touristy celeb sightings but the recognizable peeps that frequent NVG usually seem relaxed, unassuming and approachable... alot like the place itself and the menu. I went from visiting NVG 1-2 times a year to now having food and/or cocktails 1-2 times a week. Try the outdoor patio on a nice day or night

Pros: Service... food .... Calif wine list... Great for parties of any size

Cons: meals aren't inexpensive, but what is !?!?!
