In Short – The biggest music festival on the West Coast is surprisingly affordable, considering the talent involved. This nonstop showcase of legendary artists and rising stars unfolds in more than 30 different indoor and outdoor venues, stages and galleries in Seattle Center's 74-acre meadow. Shake your booty to a favorite local band, hear poets drop free verse or check out animated film shorts. Though Bumbershoot has a national reputation, its heart and soul remain distinctly Seattle.
The Independant Film Festival of music

It's obvious the people who dog bumbershoot are ignorant. Bumbershoot is about experiencing non-mainstream artists of ever venue. Bumbershoot is the musical equivalent of Seattle's Independant Flim Festival. There's hardly any other event that offers literally ever kind of musical experience in one weekend. If you're looking for a mainstream event, you should look up Summerjam and Endfest (which put Lalapalooza out of business I might ad).
- Pros: Ticket price, Timing, Variety of perfomers
Sucky

If this is the west coast's biggest music fest, than shame on us. San Diego's Street Scene is so much better (and bigger) than Bumbershoot. I think Bumbershoot needs to get better bands, better food, and open up those beer gardens, come on! Waste of money and I will never go again.
- Pros: Location, Atmosphere
- Cons: Bands, Restrictions

Know Before You Go:
Pick up wristbands required for main-stage shows at various booths first thing in the morning.

Map out your agenda and prioritize which events you really want to see before you hit the grounds. Because of the size and scope of the festival, it's very easy to overbook yourself.
The Extras:
Walking to the Center is the best way to avoid the parking nightmare. The monorail, leaving from Westlake Center, is another option.
