Escape the urban jungle with a walk through an African village..
The Experience
The Woodland Park Zoo saves you the expense of a flight to Kenya with a realistic depiction of a small African village. While on first glance the simple huts may appear to offer little, step inside to experience the exacting detail that makes this exhibit feel like the real thing. The traditional Kikuyu house provides a glimpse of rural life with its basic accouterments: a simple drinking vessel, fire pit, and crudely made bow and arrow. Even the cement floor (made to look like dirt) shows hoof prints from an intruding goat.
Facts
Nothing is off-limits (well, except for the giraffes and zebras), so kids can get a hands-on view of life in rural Africa. They can lie on a wood-planked bed or try their hand at making peanut butter using a giant mortar and pestle.
