Editorial Review for Cherry Street Coffee--Belltown – by Kerry McDonald
In Short
Early morning lines fill with businessmen, WSJ under one arm, and sleepwalking artists. Mid-morning, the unemployed dot-comers forgo the paper cup and read the morning away. Instead, grab a pillow and slide into a window booth for prime First Avenue voyeurism. Bagels, pastries, soups and tasty sandwiches pair well with the java.

We live only a block from Cherry St Coffee, and when we first moved in we fell in love with the look of it. It's the cutest little shop and has free wireless so it seemed like a great place to sit and work. They do make fantastic food and if you get a good barista the coffee is great. However, the staff is beyond rude. The manager may take the cake on this one. She is friendly to those she chooses to be, from what I can tell her only her friends, and refuses to make any accomadations for requests. Her staff rarely ever smile or greet you, often looking surprised to see you standing there interupting their conversations. So rude in fact is the staff, that my roomate and a few of our friends refuse to return and instead choose to walk up to starbucks. I will no longer get coffee there since they seem incapable of properly training barista's so you never know if you're coffee's going to be any good, however the food can be tough to resist. If you do go in, be prepared for good food, possibly wasting your hard earned $4 on bad coffee, and a scowl from whatever teenager/early 20something was forced to drag themselves out of bed that day.
Pros: great food
Cons: horrible service

I've visited the Downtown location (First and University) and several locations for a lunch sandwhich and have been happily impressed on each visit. They are very accomodating for my vegan diet, and the staff is friendly, helpful, cool and hip. It's a nice change from the run-of-the-mill coffee shops that populate the corner of nearly every block in downtown.
Pros: Ambience, food, service
