Editorial Review for Urban Pottery – by Lisa Wogan
The Scene
"Let's make it beautiful. Let's make it an event," Alison Bockus said, when she and her husband Dan decided to open a patio furniture store next door to their 3-year-old pottery boutique. And they did in a cavernous 12,000-foot former machine shop in SoDo. Soaring ceilings, burbling waterfalls and ostrich feathers are enough to make you think the sun is out.
The Goods
No flagstone has been left unturned in the Bockuses' pursuit of al fresco perfection--from teak benches and steamers to picnic baskets, torcheres and wind chimes. Furniture by O.W. Lee, Gloucester, Kettler and Veneman looks too good to leave in the rain, with prices to match. Still there are deals and more than a few surprises, hammocks made by the denizens of a Rhode Island commune, lovely Victorian replica wire settees, yard art by local artisans and even a pink flamingo or two.
