The Scene – Soft sage and taupe walls contrast gently with exposed ductwork. The hushed atmosphere is augmented by the pleasant buzz of patrons around the sushi bar, where owner Taichi Kitamura deftly carves sashimi and chats with regulars. Seats at the bar are most coveted; table service can be slow and occasionally forgetful. – – The Food – Picturesque slices of yellowtail and eel are bracingly fresh, and the spicy tuna roll is letter-perfect--generously stuffed with albacore and accented with the perfect amount of heat. Tempura dishes are uneven, occasionally…

If this were the 1st restaurant I ever tried sushi at, I would never try it again! It was horrrrrrrrrible. We sat at the sushi bar, and while trying to get through a soggy albacore tataki salad (the fish was soggy-yuck), my friend and I watched the "itamai-san" use three different, dirty rags to wipe off the cutting board and pat dry their soggy fish before placing it atop the rice.
I sit at the bar, in front of the fish case, so I can see the fish. At Chiso, I saw the fish and more than an eyeful of other things that prompted me to wrap up the meal and vamoose it across the street for $3 Manny's at the Dubliners!!!
Take a pass on this place for sushi. Try a place where the fish is fresh and handled with love!
- Pros: Nice ambiance
- Cons: The food and hygiene
Good Food, very nice space

The sushi is good here, and if your at the bar, they chefs are fun and chatty. It's a bit pricey and pretty similar to most of the other upscale sucshi joints in town. The best part of this place is the location and the intimate feel of the space.
Pricey, but good

I've been heading to Chiso's off and on in the 5 or 6 years since it opened, sharing some of the staff from I Love Sushi. In time, Chiso has developed into a mature, refined sushi presence in Seattle, and (IMHO) it's a fine place for elegant, albeit somewhat non-intimate dining. I've enjoyed bringing dates there for a lighthearted evening, although the tables are a bit close together for true intimacy. (I've found this problem at smaller places like Shiro's, for instance, where you can't help but overhear your fellow diners' conversations...or have them listen in on yours!) If seated at a table, the waitstaff are always eager to make recommendations, and if at the bar, you can feel confident that you can trust your dining experience to your chef's hands. Gochi sou sama deshita!
- Pros: unique, mature atmosphere; confident staff
- Cons: not a lot of elbow room, so to speak
