Parker's Restaurant

Birthplace of the Boston Cream Pie

  • New England Specialties
  • Historical location
  • Downtown

From the day it opened in 1855, Parker's Restaurant has set the standard for culinary and dining excellence. Parker House Rolls and Boston Cream Pie, now the official Massachusetts dessert, were created in Parker's ovens. The universally accepted term for the catch of the day "scrod" was coined here. In addition, Parker's staff included Ho Chi Minh who worked in the kitchen from 1911-1913 and Malcolm Little, later known as Malcolm X, who was a busboy in the early 1940s. A distinguished list of notable Parker's diners include, Charles Dickens, Ralph Waldo Emerison, John F. Kennedy and Bill Clinton.

Parker's menu features traditional New England fare: New England clam chowder, pan-seared Jonah crab cakes, and baked Boston scrod, as well as an eclectic selection of exquisite continental cuisine.

Editorial Review for Parker's Restaurant – by Citysearch Editors

In Short
Many an executive has come to Parker's to bust out the bourbon while relaxing in sumptuous splendor. Mahogany paneling, brocade chairs and marble table tops conspire to create a warm atmosphere. All three meals are served daily, and many a tourist has ordered classic local items like scrod and Boston Cream Pie, regardless of the hour.

We stayed at the hotel (great!) and wanted Parker House rolls and Boston Cream Pie, so we popped in for lunch. We were tourists, and dressed casually, but most of the diners were suits. BEAUTIFUL dining room. We had heard that it was past its prime, but we found it to be delightful. Service was excellent and the food outstanding. The best chowder!

Pros: excellent service

Cons: dressy

The food was ok. It was not great or even good. It was just ok. The waiter kept getting our orders wrong even though the restaurant was empty. The price is oo high for such bad service and for sub par food. Unless you just have money to spend and no taste buds, I do not recommend eating at the Omni Parker Restaurant. The only saving point is the ambiance.

Pros: Ambience

Cons: Value, Food Quality, Unpredictable service
