Editorial Review for Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar – by Allison Austin

The Scene
An abundance of polished wood and granite, rich fabrics in soothing, refined earth tones--basketball star (and major investor) Gary Payton cut few, if any, corners in design and décor. And Bellevue's classily clad diners, long starved for business-appropriate restaurants, are flocking. The stylish raw bar serves as a much-needed destination for hip duos on dates.

The Food
Head directly to the raw bar to slurp local oysters and nosh on stellar scallop or halibut seviche, or dig into dense crab cakes and cedar-plank grilled salmon in the main dining room. Seafood is fresh to a fault and the overwhelming majority of dishes are done exceedingly well. Don't miss the halibut and prawns with succotash in lobster sauce, or the vibrant tropical fruit salad. There's also a NY steak and seared scallops in two tomato sauces and a pumpkin-seed crust.

I went here last year for dinner and had an excellent meal so I was very excited to go back for dinner last Friday to celebrate a friend's birthday. I had 2 apps, the shrimp ceviche and the trio scallops. The scallops were ok but the shrimp ceviche was rubbery and had too much onion flavor. My date had a steak that was ok while I ordered the ahi seared tuna. My date's dish came out 10 minutes before mine and when my dish arrived it was a dissapointment. The fish wast coated with too much pepper and sesame seeds. All I could taste was the pepper. Furthermore, the wasabi sauce that accompanied it was salty and lacked any depth. I was really sad that the meal was so uneventuful.

I would totally go here again! This is the best place in Bellevue for seafood. And the waitstaff was really friendly and helpful.
