Tips for Hillside Quickie Vegan Sandwich

Crazy for the Crazy Jamaican Burger.... I tend to gravitate towards places that seem to really care about what they do. Hillside Quickie is one of those places for me. They make everything as you order it - no heat lamp-warmed, pre-made dreck - pay attention to the details.

As vegan fare goes, this place rocks! Most non-vegans are likely fearful of such food being flavorless and boring. However, when done right, vegan meals can be very tasty. And the Crazy Jamaican Burger at Hillside is a great example. It has an amazing flavor combination of jerk seasoning, fresh veggies, and (most importantly, as far as I'm concerned) the incredible flavor of grilled plantains.

It's a great burger, but just don't expect it to shoot through an assembly line tube instantly. Like I mentioned, they make it to order, so it will be prepared once you get there. Still, the process only takes a few minutes and is well worth it, considering the great freshness of the results.

Yummy.. I have been wanting to check this out forever, especially since it is owned by the same people who own Plum Bistro which is to die for. Finally made it and was quite happy. Its not the nicest place on the inside and you have to bus your own tables, but the food was great. I loved my seitan sandwhich and they have mac n yease which is my new all time favorite food. Its not as good as the plum mac n yease, but much cheaper if finances are tight.

Love it. Go for the sweet Jamaican wrap. Then chew like this: chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp.

Editorial Review. All-vegan sandwiches are popular with students and faculty at this crowded lunch spot in the University District.

REALLY great vegan food. This place has the best sandwiches. They are full of flavor and not bland at all. Also, their bread pudding is REALLY good.

Decent vegetarian sandwiches.. When we first walked into Hillside Quickies, no one came to serve us. We checked out the menu and stood around for about ten minutes before my boyfriend though to reopen and close the door and rattle the bell on it loudly. This brought someone out who took our order promptly. The food took a little long to make for to-go food, but I can accept that for homemade goodness. My only complaint was that the sandwiches weren't as amazing as the other reviews made me expect. They were good, but not anything exciting, and while my boyfriend and I got two different sandwiches they tasted about the same. Some time I'd like to go back and try a different sandwich to find out if I just got the wrong thing. In the meantime, I'll recommend it without saying that it's the best sandwich I've ever had.

WOW - Jamacian Tofu Burger. Boy did this unique burger blow my mind. Jerk spiced tofu, plantains, heirloom tomatoes, grilled onions - all on a yummy bun. Seriously delicious. Great for lunch.

Good Vegan Eats. I have been dreaming of having vegetarian food this good. I just recently went back to being a vegetarian and I have had some REALLY bad tofu experiences. I took two meat eaters to the U-district shop and I was VERY apprehensive about another bland tofu sandwich. One taste and it totally changed my mind and my friends. We all tried something different; the tofustrami sandwich with potato salad and coleslaw on it was fantastic! My friend ordered the Fremont Philly steak sub with seitan . OMG it was to die for and I hate vegan cheese and usually steer clear of it but this was finger lickin good.

If you want lots of veggies or another salad go try the 600 other vegetarian places I cant wait to go back and try more! Oh yeah, and chocolate cake slices as big as your head!

Vegan Sandwiches in the U-District. I absolutely LOVE Hillside Quickies' sandwiches. And their homemade ice cream! Mmmm, vegan ice cream . . . (*drool*)

Our family LOVED it!!!!. We ate here during our recent visit to Seattle. We had read the review from the Seattle Weekly on the internet. We didn't have high hopes since many veggie places have faux meat dishes with less flavor than library paste. Our family ordered tofustrami sub, big burger, tofu thingee wrap and

soup. Our 14 year old son exclaimed, "This is one of the

best restaurants we've eaten at!! Why isn't there a place

like this in the Bay Area?" We all loved the food-so tasty!!!

Food was flavorful (coleslaw or potato salad in the sandwiches was a definite plus)! Desserts are heavenly!

We had cookies and a nut, crunch bar with about 12 kinds

of nuts, seeds, dried fruit, and other crunchy bits!
