Quality sushi, joyous experience.
My family and I have happily returned to Fuji for many years. It features fresh, quality sushi at reasonable prices, in an unpretentious atmosphere. The decor is efficient, but tasteful and inexpensively sophisticated. It is operated by Japanese immigrants who make frequent return visits to Japan; they know what they are looking for in an authentic Japanese restaurant and observe high standards. The restaurant is almost always crowded with Japanese and Japanese-Americans.
Contrary to a couple other reviews on this site, the owner and hostess is elegant, gracious and charming. She is also a no-nonsense restaurateur who is quite clearly large and in charge, which is another thing we like about her. If you enjoy your meal, take a minute to tell her, and it will enrich your evening. Do it again the next time and you will be a regular.
The waitresses and waiters are competent and friendly. We have never had bad service. Challenging communication issues surrounding the ordering of an American cocktail only add to the experience.
Free and available parking (except on football Sundays or during other major stadia events) is an underrated plus in this congested neighborhood.
One of my favorite lunch places. Several of my co-workers and I love this place for lunch! We often celebrate co-worker birthdays here and it is always fun to be in the tatami room. The bento box special is a crowd favorite and is reasonably priced. I always pick the vegetable udon and the tonkatsu for my two items. Service is quick and staff are friendly. Best time to go is at 11:45 am or 12:45 pm.
Just like zagat said:This is may be one of the best reasonably priced japanese eateries in town. A group of us can't get into Maneki because they lost our reservation so we walked in to fuji sushi cross street from maneki.Turn out this is a wonderful restaurant. The sushi was very fresh and reasonably priced. The service was very good also. For sure we will be back there!
Weird Management.... My daughter and I went last night to this restaurant and the service was awful. The sushi was mediocre (which took almost an hour to get), but what was very disappointing was the fact that once we got our food, we never saw our waitress again...nevermind wanting refills on tea, or needing more water, or wanting to place another order, we were virtually ignored until I brought out my Visa, at which point the manager swooped in and grabbed it off the table. But here's the great part - I left no tip and the manager chased us down two blocks away to demand why. I will NEVER go to this restaurant again
fishy fish.. The bento boxes at lunch time are a tasty lunch, lots of variety to savor. This sushi bar has committed the gravest of sushi bar sins however, on more than a couple of occasions, the raw fish at dinnertime has been less than fresh. Raw fish should always be sweet and fishy-odor free, only smelling of the ocean, but alas, it was fishy. The aftertaste when we left the restaurant was so bad that we had to eat an orange to get rid of it. It takes alot of work upon the staff of a sushi restaurant to assure that they get the best quality fresh product, and someone has been lazy.
good sushi but slow service. I tried this restaurant since I've read good reviews. This restaurant has free parking behind the building. You have to get a voucher after you park. Unfortunately I didn't know that. When we arrived, we were seated promptly. However, it took a good 10 minutes before we were given water. We ordered sushi which was fresh and very fulfilling. It seemed that other customers like to order the bento boxes which "look" quite tasty too. The interior decoration is very nice. As for the food, I do recommend it. The service was average since it seems that they are understaffed. So, if you aren't starving and not in a hurry, then you should give this place a try.
Truly a downgrade from years' past.
I used to visit this restaurant regularly (about once a week). The hostess (a former airline attendant) used to be friendly, and the food was good & reasonably priced. Went back today for a late lunch after a long absence. Things have clearly changed for the worse, and the hostess (from before) seems to have completely lost her hospitality skills. The food is now mediocre, and the wait-staff is under-trained and thoroughly unpleasant.
I arrived at the restaurant early to secure a table for 5 (the restaurant was about 60% full). The hostess (let's just call her "The Ice Princess") showed me the table. I proceeded to sit and wait quietly for the greeting from a server and a glass of water. I received neither for 15 minutes. I met the glances of both of the female servers several times & tried to flag one down to ask for the water. Neither acknowledged me, even as they served a table of two right next to me. Finally, I walked up to the hostess stand and asked the server who had previously ignored me several times for a glass of water. As she brought the water, I watched her roll her eyes and mutter something under her breath. Arriving at my table, the first words out of her mouth were, "Are your friends going to show up?" I thought, why, no, I actually just enjoy sitting alone at large, empty tables in restaurants. Instead, I told her that, yes, my family would arrive shortly, which they did.
Less than two minutes after my family sat down, the server, suddenly eager to do her job, came to the table and asked if we were all ready to order. Thirty minutes after I arrived, we finally got tea and place settings.
The haughty hostess acted like she was doing her customers a favor by allowing her to simply parade around and look down her nose at them the entire time. Didn't even drop her act when customers went to pay.
Needless to say, today's experience was enough to completely turn me off this poorly-managed establishment. What a crappy joint.
Talk about a rip off!. After my latest visit I will never go back to Fujii Sushi. Not only have their prices gone way up but the amount of food has decreased substantially. I left the restaurant still hungry after having a "bento box". The food wasn't as good as other Japanese style restaurants and since they remodeled the crowd is packed in like a group of sardines. The female owner used to be more of the hostess but now just prances around like Queen Elizabeth and acts as if it is a privilege that one can eat there. I will never eat there again and would not recommend Fujii Sushi unless you are on a diet and don't mind spending a lot for very little.
What a JOKE!!. It was two years ago I was there for lunch. I had ordered sashimi from the menu and added same salmon and I heard the waitress asking the chef how much should I charge her and he said charge her $54.00 in Japanese. On the menu it was under $30.00 dollars so four piece of salmon was $20.00 dollars. WOW!!!!! They had no idea I understood Japanese. Never wanted to go back but then yesterday I had no choice and I got another BAD experience. First of all the waitress asked are you here for sushi? What kind of question is that and then sent us to the bar which I like but it was VERY dirty with left over food pieces from who ever was sitting there before we got there....then the chef said go back to the door and wait there. How dare they order the customers around! We had ordered some seared Toro and other stuff from the menu and it was AWFUL plus the service was horrible. They had this waitress?Miss know it all with an attitude plus I didn?t see any staff with a smile. Don?t they know a smile goes a long way? They need to train the staff and the chef AGAIN? and I wonder who is in charge because ?THE FISH STINKS FROM THE HEAD? so who is the head there??? Never again will I go back!!
Authentic Traditional Real Sushi in Town of Ichiro and Ken Jojima. As a Japanese guy who have been lived more than 20 years in the US, and travel more than 100 days for last 3 years. I miss real authentic traditional real Japanese Sushi once in while. Fuji sushi gave me all in once. In these days, we have seen many sushi chefs have never ate real sushi in Japan or sushi bar, but they make some thing like sushi in the US every where. Fuji sushi's chef from Chiba can offer real sushi or sashimi from fresh fish. This sushi/Japanese restaurant can offer with at home atmosphere from real Japanese staffs..
