Editorial Review for Mediterranean Mix – by Anna Roth

In Short
Easily identifiable by the crowd spilling out onto the sidewalk, this dive-y, open-air storefront is always filled with slavering addicts waiting for their falafel fix. Though many swear the falafel's the best in town, other popular items include the hummus plate, gyros and chicken shawarma. Burgers, pizzas, cheese steak and fish-and-chips are also on the menu. After-hours, the joint is hopping with clubgoers looking for late-night fuel.

Insider Tips

Where to Sit

There's limited seating inside and a few tables on the sidewalk, but chances are you'll have to take your food to go. Head to the Waterfall Garden Park, a few blocks away, for a peaceful picnic.

There's only one reason to come here, and that's because of the slightly spicy, always delicious falafel sandwich. It's good at lunch, it's good at 2am when you come out of the bars and need something to eat. The pizza is cardboard; the rest is only average. Though I've never tried the shwarma, which I've heard good things about. But do have a falafel sandwich, I think it's the best in the city.

Pros: Amazing falafel, open late

Cons: Often a line

This restaurant is a prime example of why not to go to a chachki's (sp?). My husband and I were going to the piano bar around the corner, but were hungry and vegetarian. We saw this "dive" looking place that knew had to offer vegetarian because of the cuisine. We weren't expecting much of anything besides to fill our stomachs. But, instead we received excellent food, great prices, and above all the best customer service I have had EVER!! With only one charismatic person working and a relatively large crowd ordering at the counter; we received personalized, friendly, entertaining service incredibly fast! Anyone looking for great food and a reason to support small, independent businesses should go here and enjoy!

Pros: food, customer service, price

Cons: maybe not the most attractive restaurant

Equally busy at midnight and noon, this perennially open Pioneer Square falafel stand does a brisk business from foot traffic.  See the full editorial review.
