Under a worn-out sign, in a dingy building, you’ll find the door into a gem of a restaurant. Like walking through the wardrobe into Narnia, the door to Mike’s Noodle House takes you from the somewhat unsavory streets of the International District into a well polished and beautifully decorated Chinese restaurant. In the back, a small, elderly Chinese woman is regularly hard at work stuffing wontons. The menu offers a variety of different options of meat, dumplings and vegetables in noodle or plain soups as well as rice porridges, known as congee. Dishes are well seasoned and noodles beyond…
Editor's Tips
- Know Before You Go:
- Mike's is packed most times of day, so be prepared for a wait - though consensus is, it will be well worth it.
Best hole in wall in the International District

The noodles are great and the congee may be even better. The place is an absolute mess (small dining area, people waiting in line next to your table while you eat) and the service is on par with other restaurants in the international district. However you will forgive all these things once you dig into your food. The menu is huge but it consists of the same six or seven ingredients presented in different ways. If you don't mind the ambience or lack of it, you will not be disappointed.
- Pros: everything on the menu is good, cheap eats
- Cons: its crowded, stuffy, and dining area is uncomfortable
really really good wonton soup...and congee

the place is small, the service isn't that great but the food is really good! the wontons are nice and firm and the congee is really creamy. perfect place to go to on a rainy day!
I've been told this is as close to authentic Chinese noodles you can get...if so, I love authentic!

I took my family here on the recommendation of a colleague who is married to a Chinese gal. Although it took a few attempts during a renovation period, we finally made it one Saturday afternoon. The place is small and was packed but we were determined to wait. They seated us as quickly as possible and gave us hot tea while we waited outside. Once the eating began, we were in heaven. The group was large and we tried to order some of everthing, including some of the more adventurous (to us) items. Everyone loved the food. It's quite affordable and incredibly good. I will return as often as possible. Too bad I'm in Ballard and it's in the ID. Try it out and see what you think of authentic Chinese noonies!
- Pros: Exceptional noodles and food, fair prices, friendly staff
- Cons: Small space, long waits
Great food

I love this place. The food is great and the price reasonable. Whenever I eat here, I usually get their shrimp wonton (among the best in Seattle) and their chicken congee (rice porridge). I've never had a bad experience here with the staff. The turnoff to this place is that the place is small and cramped, and probably built this way to make it look like that there is an overflow of customers. If you decide to eat here, you need to arrive early (i.e. before the late afternoon), as the staff will close up shop once they've sold out on the day's inventory.
- Pros: Great food
- Cons: Restaurant space is a bit small
