Editorial Review for The Standard--Downtown – by Gayot.com
The Scene
A new era of revitalization for downtown L.A. took off running with the 2001 launch of this hot spot. The opening night sleepover party that inaugurated this hip property was attended by Hollywood's finest clad in their pjs, many of whom are considered some of the hotel's most popular amenities.
The Details
Rooms come in various sizes with names like Huge, Gigantic, Humongous and Wow! Each features modern, minimal decor which speaks of today's retro-futuristic craze: shiny silver throw pillows; a barcode-inspired design that covers the walls; beds on low carpeted platforms; and in the Wow! rooms, a giant foam foot sculpture in the bathroom. Fun amenities include CD players, mood lighting, aromatherapy toiletries and well-stocked minibars. The rooftop bar and pool is the center of the hotel's late-night action, where beautiful people mingle amid fake topiary, sleek Formica furniture and staff dressed in red cheerleading uniforms.

The best thing about this place is the roof top view and pool. I've gone on Sunday nights when there is not a huge crowd. I've heard trying to get in on Friday and Saturday nights is near impossible. The drinks are on the $$$ side, but its a nice spot to take a date for after dinner drinks. (Sunday only). I hear you spot a lot of celebrities on Monday nights. I would suggest calling head, becuase sometimes they close the roof top bar for private parties, or hotel guest only.

The rooftop bar is my favorite place to party in LA. I've been there quite a few times and I finally got to stay at the hotel last weekend. When I was on their website booking the room, I found the promo code "summer" for a free upgrade and got to stay in a really nice room for the weekend.
